…Isildur1 yet again. Now it was his turn to lose

March 11th, 2010 No Comments   Posted in HighStakesNews.com

After Isildur1 finished up his two latest sessions he was ready for a new challenge. He played more and more hours and eventually lost 1,7 million to Phil Galfond. We really don’t know if the long sessions got to the Swede or was it just Galfond running in god mode.

There was three opponents against Isildur1 in his last session: Tom “durrrr” Dwan, Justin “ZeeJustin” Bonomo and Phil “OMGClayAiken” Galfond.

Isildur1 lost about a million to Dwan in PLO, won about half a million from Bonomo in NLHE and lost almost 1,7 million dollars to Galfond!

Even though the Swede lost really big, he is still up around 1,6 million dollars for the year. Let’s hope he’s going to take a nap before his next session.

And Isildur1 against Cole South again!

Isildur1 grinded 1,4 million last night!

March 10th, 2010 No Comments   Posted in HighStakesNews.com

Isildur1 is back! He has made 1,4 million dollars in the last 24 hours on Full Tilt Poker - playing PLO. He has now won the most in 2010. Pretty insane guy.

Most of his winnings came from Cole South and Brian Hastings. South lost $785k and Hastings $556k. After this session the Swedish sensation is now the biggest winner of the year with over three million dollar in winnings.

Isildur1 makes a nice check/raise on the river and wins a $382k pot:

Isildur1 ($242,980)
Brian Hastings ($190,988)

Brian Hastings raises to $3,000, Isildur1 raises to $9,000, Brian Hastings calls $6,000

Isildur1 checks, Brian Hastings checks

TURN ($18,000) 2h 6d Qh 7d

Without no doubt the Swede is going to play until he is broke or has won all the money from everyone. If you believe some rumors, Isildur1 made about 7 million dollars last year but lost everything. Now everything looks the same, except the games have been a bit smaller.

Let’s see how far the Swede can fly this time.

Ziigmund lost a million to Isildur1

March 9th, 2010 No Comments   Posted in HighStakesNews.com

Full Tilt Poker games are wild. There’s not a single day when someone wins or loses seven figures. Last Sunday “PixKim” lost a million, and this time it was Ilari “Ziigmund” Sahamies who lost a million.

Ziigmund and Isildur1 played about 1000 hands of $300/$600 and $500/$1000 PLO.

Isildur1’s full house beats Sahamies’ hand in a $423k pot

After their heads up was over, Sahamies told to Isildur1 that he should lose his money to Brian Hastings - and that is what happened. Isildur1 lost about half a million to Hastings later on.

Ziigmund: its just ****** amazing
Ziigmund: give my money for hastings
Ziigmund: gg

Eventually the Swedish Isildur1 managed to lose most of his winnings and is up only about 181.000 dollars in the past 24 hours.

Erick Lindgren is with David Benyamine’s ex-girlfriend?

March 3rd, 2010 No Comments   Posted in HighStakesNews.com

Erica Schoenberg, who has been single for a while, is rumored to have a new man. Of course he’s another poker professional, the two-time WPT winner Erick Lindgren.

Lindgren and Schoenberg were seen having some intimate moments at the LAPC Main Event where Lindgren was railing Erica, who actually lasted longer in the tournament. E-dog offered his resorting shoulder after Schoenberg was eliminated.

There’s not any proper news about the couple, but it seems that Schoenberg has indeed found another high profile poker professional by her side. Schoenberg’s former boyfriend was the high stakes player David Benyamine.

Normally when people are eliminated from the tournament, they break up the table and have the players take new seats from other tables. In Shootout format you will play each table like a sit’n'go, only the winner continues the tournament.

So you have to adjust your play according to the shootout format. Negreanu, Rousso and Raymer are giving away some of their tricks for Shootout tournaments in this video.

Full Tilt Poker under the investigation of FBI?

February 23rd, 2010 No Comments   Posted in HighStakesNews.com

Online-casinos.com writes about a rumor that Full Tilt Poker is being investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation in the USA. UIGEA’s deadline is near, June first, and it is believed that the Feds are moving rapidly to prosecute someone right away.

It seems that the FBI agents have been interviewing online players of Full Tilt Poker. Even the small stakes players have been visited without warning by the FBI agents who then asked questions about the player’s transactional activities with Full Tilt Poker. The Feds have stated that they are not gathering information about the players but about Full Tilt Poker.

It is now speculated that this is going to lead into a case against Full Tilt Poker eventually. Washington state is one of the few of U.S. states which prohibits online poker. This seems like the perfect way for an FBI investigation as it could result in real convictions for firms offering online gambling to those who live in Washington state.

If the rumor is true and Washington state sues FTP, it will cause more strength for UIGEA and the downfall of UIGEA is nowhere in near vicinity.

Marc “_myst_” Karam is the new Full Tilt Poker pro signing

February 19th, 2010 No Comments   Posted in HighStakesNews.com

Karam hasn’t been that lucky always. Last year, when his former sponsor Eurolinx ran into economic problems, thousands of players lost their whole bankroll, including Karam.

So Karam must be really happy about his new sponsorship deal and let’s see if the new contract inspires him to play in the FTP high stakes games as well.

Viktor Blom out of EPT Copenhagen - Isildur1 loses $900k just after that

February 18th, 2010 No Comments   Posted in HighStakesNews.com

Viktor Blom was eliminated from the European Poker Tour - Copenhagen yesterday and it didn’t take long after Isildur1 came online to Full Tilt Poker only to lose a bit over $900k. Viktor Blom is rumored to be the internet sensation Isildur1, even though he denies it.

Viktor Blom aka “Blom90″ aka “Isildur1″?

Even Pokernews.com seems to suggest that Blom is Isildur1:

“…one gentleman causing more than a ripple of interest among the ranks of assembled media was 20-year-old Swedish wunderkind Viktor Blom. Suspected by many to be the real-life incarnation of online phenomenon “Isildur1″, Blom was not giving anything away today - except, as it turned out, his chips.”

Isildur1 seems to be falling back

First he won $1,6 million in two days then he blew almost all up. Isildur1 played some $300/$600 PLO against Brian Townsend and then a bit of $100/$200 and $200/$400 NLHE against Justin “ZeeJustin” Bonomo.

After tge games were over, Isildur1 had lost a bit over $900k, most of it went to Townsend.

If Isildur1 is Viktor Blom, he might have taken the short trip to the Casino Copenhagen’s bar and then went straight to play online:

Antonius: “I’ve always wanted to play against the best.”

February 17th, 2010 No Comments   Posted in HighStakesNews.com

Patrik Antonius, a former model and pro tennis player, has always been reaching to the top. The Finn, who dominated the online high stakes at Full Tilt Poker last year winning more than $9 million, was awarded both the European and Nordic Online Player of the Year Awards.

In an interview he gave to Coinflip.com from Mexico, where he is currently on vacation, Antonius saus he is honored to receive these awards:

“I value the European Poker Award highly since I consider myself first and foremost an online player these days.”

“My play was in great shape, and it was a really interesting and eventful year at Full Tilt Poker. Isildur brought a whole new dimension to the games and created huge action. I have always wanted to play against the very best and learn something new about poker every day. I like it when tough and aggressive fresh blood shows up cause it’s always an opportunity to learn for me, too.”

Antonius, who is familiar face in all the big games, both online and live at the Bobby’s Room in Las Vegas, feels that online games are currently the best games for a cash game specialist like himself:

“The Big Game has moved online,” Antonius confirms.

Patrik gives the online poker shooting star Isildur1 a lot of credit and thinks the mystery Swede, who won $7 million and lost it all in just over month last fall, could’ve taken the award from right under his nose.

“If Isildur had continued his great run, he should have been awarded this trophy,” the Finn says modestly.

Being voted as the best online player of the year awar at the Nordic Poker Awards was even sweeter for Antonius, as he feels that players who were nominated in his category was a very strong group of players, including players like Ilari “Ziigmund” Sahamies.

“At NPA the fans voted for the nominees and I’m very happy to get chosen from such tough company. A big thank you for all voters!”

Patrik is happy about winning the awards, but he is even happier that his family is going to have a new member in August. WSOP is normally the highlight of summer for a poker player, but this summer Antonius has something else to look forward to.

“I have a very special reason to look forward to next summer. My fiancee Maya is pregnant again and she’s due in August. We are all very excited about it, especially our two-year old daughter Mila who can’t wait to become a big sister!”

Opinion: High Stakes Poker 6th Season premiere wasn’t that good without AJ Benza

February 16th, 2010 No Comments   Posted in HighStakesNews.com

It didn’t take long after the criticism began. The common opinion in the poker forums seems to be that High Stakes Poker is not the same show without AJ Benza. Although people liked the first episode, they found it had many flaws.

AJ Benza

Many people thinks that the friendly chatter and joking between AJ Benza and Gabe Kaplan was a big part of the whole High Stakes Poker experience. Now, when Gabe is alone in the booth, there’s something missing. People also thinks that the new host, Kara Scott, isn’t bringing anything to the show - and that her player interviews are just useless.

Also the show seemed to be quite short; only 45 minutes. We are pretty sure the earlier seasons had longer episodes.

Of course there’s lots of people who like the renewal as well. But let’s wait for few more episodes to come out and see how it goes.

The Swedish internet sensation had up to eight $100/$200 NL Hold’Em tables open when they played with Haxton. Isildur1’s first session with Haxton didn’t go that well as Isildur1 managed to lose almost 120,000 dollars to him.

After Isildur1 was done with Haxton, Justin Bonomo challenged him. They opened up some $200/$400 heads up tables and after awhile Isildur1 crushed Bonomo.

Eventually Bonomo lost 550,000 dollars to the crazy Swede and Isildur1 is up a bit over 690.000 for the night. Bonomo’s friend had a piece of the action, so his total losses weren’t that big:

ZeeJustin: friend that had a peice backed out, i have to go down to 1/2 if you want to keep playing =(
Isildur1: ok :( sry i am to tired for that :(
ZeeJustin: up to you
ZeeJustin: ok, gg, gn

Isildur1’s bankroll should be now about million dollars and the long waited comeback is happening! Let’s see who the Swede will challenge after he has slept a bit.

February 15th, 2010 No Comments   Posted in HighStakesNews.com

Swedish Isildur1 is making a slow comeback at Full Tilt Poker and he has even made some results lately. Yesterday he was sighted at the $200/$400 CAP PLO tables where he won 51.000 dollars. The internet sensation has made a bit over 60.000 dollars within two days now.

It was very close that Tom Dwan and Isildur1 would have had a rematch as they were already playing six $100/$200 NL Hold’em tables, but unfortunately “durrrr” had to leave shortly.

Patrik Antonius: “I’ve lost close to $10 million in staking”

February 11th, 2010 No Comments   Posted in HighStakesNews.com

Last year was Patrik Antonius’ year. He won 9 million dollars from Full Tilt Poker’s high stakes games. Now Patrik takes a look at his life as a poker professional and a father.

Life hasn’t been that easy to Patrik either. In a recent Card Player interview he tells that he has lost loads of money into staking other people, sports bets and golf.

“When I bet sports, I bet at least $50,000. And I don’t think I won any bets last year. And I lost millions on the golf course, as well. I’m a big loser in golf now,” Antonius tells.

And on top of that he has lost a lot staking other people. Antonius counts that he has lost nearly 10 million dollars while taking action from other people. That’s a lot of money. It’ll be hard to get it back in my lifetime.”

Patrik’s online games haven’t been running that good either. He has lost about $1,5 million by now. And if things can’t get any worse, his back is giving him problems again. But all this is very familiar to the Finn; “My life always goes like this. Things go bad or good. I hate these moments when everything just goes bad. When I get better, everything usually gets better, too. It’s normal. Welcome to the poker world,” Antonius concludes the first part of the interview.

About the current games, “Isildur1″ and Hastings

Patrik likes to play without any poker trackers or other software, but doesn’t mind if his opponents use them, instead he doesn’t approve that his opponents share the hand histories.

“For me, I don’t mind if they’re using (tracking software). But you should not share the hand histories, obviously, with other players … that’s completely out of line. That I don’t accept.”

Patrik would have liked to play more hands against “Isildur1″ but Brian Hastings managed to crush him before Antonius got the opportunity to play against him again. “I was ready to play him more. But then Brian Hastings ran $3 million over expectation.”

Hastings doesn’t get much love from his “thanks everybody” blog: “He should just be happy to take the money. If I were him, I would’ve just taken the money, I wouldn’t have said anything publicly.” Better way to tell about the session would have been something along the lines of: “I was very lucky. I ran over $3 million above expectation. It could happen to anybody,” says Antonius, with a laugh.

When looking to the future, Patrik waits for some new players to emerge into the high stakes games: “I think there are going to be more young players coming in to dominate the biggest games. Older players have problems competing, because they don’t work on their games as much as the younger guys.”

What comes to Patrik’s normal life, he tells that his wife, Maya, is on her third month waiting for their second child. Everything seems to be good at this point of Antonius’ life: “Babies are good, babies are good. I’m happy to be a young dad.”

Ilari “Ziigmund” Sahamies won 393,000 dollars last night from Full Tilt Poker’s high stakes games and is up $420.000 this year.

Most of Ilari’s winnings came from Cole South while playing $200/$400 PLO. South is down $245k during the last 24 hours.

Patrik Antonius managed to win last night as well. Only $290k, but he hasn’t been running that good lately so we think he is more than happy to win something.
