Ivey, Cates and Galfond the biggest winners in August - Gus Hansen went down almost $3 million
It was great to see some good action on Full Tilt Poker last month after the quiet summer. Although only Phil Ivey and Daniel “jungleman12″ Cates managed to get over million dollar winnings.

Patrik Antonius and Phil Ivey, the poker pals
Ivey won a staggering 2,06 million dollars and Cates eventually earned $1,1 million. Ivey’s performance made people talk that if he had some side bet going on as he was giving a lot of action.
Apparently this wasn’t the case at all:
deprimiert: hey do u have any probbets goin on? ur grinding all the day
Phil Ivey: nope just feel like playing
Phil Ivey: gg play later
deprimiert: haha cool
deprimiert: gg
Other big winners were Phil “OMGClayAiken” Galfond (+$904k), Tom “durrrr” Dwan (+$737k) and Jared “harrington25″ Bleznick (+$730k). Dwan made good profit even though he had a bad start in his challenge against Daniel Cates.
Once again the biggest losses were made by Gus Hansen, who lost almost 2,9 million dollars. Patrik Antonius lost $815k and his great month was over within few sessions.

Ziigmund and Miss Finland, Viivi Pumpanen on a date!
According to a Finnish tabloid magazine Seiska, Ilari “Ziigmund” Sahamies and Miss Finland, Viivi Pumpanen are dating. It’s still unclear when and where they met.

Miss Finland, Viivi Pumpanen
The Finnish tabloid magazine Seiska tells that Viivi Pumpanen had a breakup with her former boyfriend and shortly after Ziigmund came along. Viivi has been seen riding in Ziigmund’s Mercedes-Benz few times.
Pumpanen has denied the relationship, but Ziigmund asked the journalists: “You haven’t got any pictures, haven’t you?”
Rumors or not - Ziigmund’s taste seems to be great.

Gus Hansen’s latest session: Down $1,158,699
Gus Hansen has been losing a lot. Really, a lot. He managed to lose $1,158,699 last night and he is down almost 2,8 million dollars in August already.

Most of his last night’s losses came from $2k/$4k Omaha Hi/lo and 7-Game against Phil Ivey (+$576k) and Cole South (+$493k).
Hansen’s losses in online poker are now over 9,2 million dollars and we just wonder if he can manage to climb back up… ever.

Tom Dwan vs Daniel “jungleman12? Cates - The durrrr Challenge
Cates and Dwan began to play their Challenge a while ago, and now they’ve played around 5,900 hands in two sessions already. A “bit” faster than the Challenge with Patrik Antonius.

Their first sessions were full of action and the railbirds are not excpecting anything less from the sessions to come. We’ll hope to see this being over within amonth or two, if everything goes well.
“Jungleman12″ is up $518,000 on Dwan after about 5,900 hands.
Dwan’s Challenge with Antonius is on hold with only 11k hands to go. Antonius is down roughly $2 million.

Sorel Mizzi tells that he was being blackmailed
I bet everyone knows about the whole deal with Sorel Mizzi and the accusations he has been facing lately. Mizzi has been caught before, is he cheating again?

There’s an IM chat between Mizzi and Steve “thorladen” Weinstein posted on the 2+2 ,which clearly shows how Mizzi was/is planning to do some ghosting by using Windows Remote Desktop program. Here’s an excerpt from the original post:

Mizzi is now answering the accusation and tells that he has been blackmailed and he refused to pay the blackmailer, so the blackmailer posted the chat on 2+2. Mizzi also adds that the chat has been compiled from different chat sessions during 2008-2009.
Mizzi also criticizes the whole 2+2 community and says that Shaun Deeb is just a gossipmonger.

Ivey admits: “IHateJuice” is better in Limit Hold’em
Many people consider Phil Ivey to be the best poker player, but now Phil Ivey admits to “IHateJuice” that he is inferior in Limit Hold’em.

Just recently Ivey and “IHateJuice” had a session in $2k/$4k Limit Hold’em. The session ended in Ivey’s small $10k loss, but the chat during the play was interesting:
IHateJuice: do u always just play 1 table?
Phil Ivey: not always
IHateJuice: but?
Phil Ivey: do u always play limit holdem?
IHateJuice: lhe is way better for multitabling than omaha or nl
IHateJuice: yes
IHateJuice: well right now im learning stud
IHateJuice: sure i wanna play mixed games one day
Phil Ivey: im playing the game you specialize in and it’s not enough?
Phil Ivey: u should thank me everytime i ante up
IHateJuice: u are the biggest winner in LHE history
IHateJuice: by far
IHateJuice: i think ur as specialized there
Phil Ivey: who is better right now?
IHateJuice: i cant tell on that sample. i play ur name
Phil Ivey: i think we both know u are better than me at this game
Phil Ivey: but i play anyway so u should be thankful
Phil Ivey: if u played me horse i would b thankful
IHateJuice: i def will
IHateJuice: will take me a year or two though
It’s unclear if Ivey only wants more action, or is he really admitting that someone is better than him. Although “IHateJuice” has been winning from Ivey earlier, so…
Anyway, “IHateJuice” gets some great recognition from one of the greatest, so it will look really good on his CV if he ever applies some sponsorship deal.

“RaiseOnce” is Patrik Antonius?
It has been rumored that “RaiseOnce” on PokerStars is supposed to be Phil Ivey, but now there’s some speculation that it is actually Patrik Antonius.

There’s some proof to back this up as the Limit player “O Fortuna PLS”, who has played against Ivey and Antonius multiple times, tells on 2+2 that “RaiseOnce” is Patrik Antonius.
Of course Patrik’s sponsorship deal forbids him to play on other sites - so there’s no conclusive answer yet.

Daniel Negreanu and karaoke
Daniel Negreanu writes about his smoothly going cash games and that he enjoys singing in karaoke. There are worse ways to spend your free time, we reckon.

“Some people are “too cool” for karaoke, but I don’t hang with people like that.”
Negreanu’s cash games are going well. Eight straight winning sessions and $454,836,50 profit in 1870 hands. Daniel has 11,107 hands played overall and his profit is $257,041.80, it’s about 11,6bb/100. He admits that he can’t keep the winning rate that high, because he has been very lucky in all-in situations as his AI EV is $138,194.86.
Daniel also mentions the Big Game show and a new Million Dollar Challenge show is being shot.
Daniel also reveals that he is a huge fan of karaoke and he has been singing karaoke lately. Negreanu lists some of his favorite songs:
- “Stan” – Eminem
- “Only God Knows Why” – Kid Rock
- “Mama” – Boys II Men
- “Pimpers Paradise” – Bob Marley
- “You are Not Alone” – Michael Jackson
- “More Than Words” – Extreme
“I think it’s super fun”, Negreanu tells.

Phil Galfond doesn’t like Cap Pot-Limit Omaha
It’s quite unusual that all the high stakes games on Full Tilt have been Cap Pot-Limit Omaha lately. Just like Patrik Antonius, Phil Galfond doesn’t enjoy this form of poker at all.

Galfond tells about his dislike in his latest blog entry:
“I really dislike cap PLO. I think it’s a boring game with few complexities, and those complexities are more about math and running hand scenarios through calculators off the table than they are about psychology, leveling, and adjusting to opponents and game flow. If cap PLO are the only games running, I’ll play, but I hope people start playing something else”, Galfond writes.
Antonius told a quite similar story few months ago. Antonius thinks all the Cap games should be removed, because they’re not poker.
Let’s hope the games move back to No Limit and Pot Limit games soon.

“jungleman12? will take the “Durrrr Challenge”?
Like we just reported, Tom “durrrr” Dwan is back at Full Tilt Poker! But his games just didn’t start in the best possible way though as he ended up losing nearly 200,000 dollars - of which “jungleman12″ took the most (+$154K).

After the games “durrrr” and “jungleman12? had quite an interesting discussion. According to their conversation “jungleman12″ might be up to take the “Durrrr Challenge“.
Read their discussion from below:
durrrr: ok gg
jungleman12: gg
durrrr: y dont u take challenge
durrrr: since u never lose to me
jungleman12: i will prob
jungleman12: maybe
jungleman12: isnt bt next or something?
durrrr: i can do 2 at once
durrrr: ship ivey 500k n we will work out details
durrrr: get my aim from someone
jungleman12: ok
durrrr: i wanna crank out at least 2 of em before london if poss
jungleman12: ill talk to you over aim before doing it
durrrr: we could obv play in like 2 weeks
jungleman12: k
durrrr: kk gg
durrrr: gl
Dwan notes that he can play even two challenges at the same time (the other one would probably be against Townsend). Dwan also says that he and “jungleman12″ could already start their challenge in about two weeks. So let’s hope now that the challenge will come true – their match would surely be exciting to watch!

“jungleman12″ will take the “Durrrr Challenge”?
“durrrr” returned to online games - see this year’s high stakes results from here!
Tom “durrrr” Dwan could neither grab a bracelet from this year’s WSOP nor win the millions from his side bets - although he got pretty near. But Dwan will get a new chance next autumn at the WSOP Europe, as he already has taken and will still take bets to that happening as well.
During this summer’s heavy tournament season Dwan has hardly been seen at Full Tilt Poker, but now the young American is in grinding mode again. Right now “durrrr” is playing three tables of $100/$200 No-Limit Hold’em, and the online high stakes scene seems to be picking up anyway.
Dwan is also leading this year’s profit stats with his about 3,5 million dollars. The definite loser of the year is still Brian Townsend (playing with his nick “sbrugby” again): his losses are around 2,5 million dollars.

The youngest WSOP Main Event final table ever?
Now as we know the finalists of the Main Event, it is time to take a closer look at them. Namely last month Time Magazine published an article on the “attack of the math brats” in the WSOP. And now this scenario - painted by Dan Kadlec - has really come true…

-November Nine in a neat row.
The upcoming Main Event final will be historical in a sense that there will be only one player at the table who is over thirty years of age. Thus it shall definitely be the youngest Main Event final ever - perhaps even the youngest final table for any event in the WSOP history!
Eight in their twenties and one in his thirties:
FILIPPO CANDIO – 26
JOSEPH CHEONG – 24
JOHN DOLAN – 24
JONATHAN DUHAMEL – 22
MATTHEW JARVIS – 25
MICHAEL MIZRACHI – 29
CUONG “SOI” NGUYEN – 37
JOHN RACENER – 24
JASON SENTI – 25
Still some trivia in the end: only two of these players were 21 or older when Chris Moneymaker won the Main Event at the age of 27. So the years just go by…

Ted Forrest’s mad weight-loss bet is over
Ted Forrest’s totally absurd side bet is finally over. Forrest bet Mike Matusow and Justin Smith two million dollars that he will be able to drop his weight from 85 kilos to 62 kilos. As mad as it sounds, Forrest made what he promised….

-Ted Forrest before.
Last night Ted Forrest stepped on the scale in front of the ESPN gang. The scale stopped just at over 60 kilos which is over 20 kilos less than after that meal when Forrest, Matusow and Smith made their bet.

-Ted Forrest now, sick!
If the story is true, Forrest did not eat a bit in eleven days, and hardly got any liquids. Sheer madness.
Matusow didn’t appear to the weigh-in, so Forrest and his girlfriend and “coach” had to leave for waking up Matusow so that their bet would be officially declared over, and Ted could get his two million dollars. Yeah, everyone has their way to gather some WSOP value…

Phil Ivey eager for winning the WPT Bellagio Cup - already his 9th WPT final
Phil Ivey is doing pretty well at the moment: from this year’s WSOP he won his 8th bracelet and a nice sum of money from his side bets. Now the WSOP 2010 has hardly ended, but Ivey is already chasing the victory of the WPT Bellagio Cup.

This is already the ninth WPT final for Ivey. One of these he has also won - namely in 2008 he conquered WPT L.A. Poker Classic and earned huge 1,59 million dollars. In 2008 Ivey also profited big amounts of money with his side bets.
Besides Ivey Daniel Negreanu and Scotty Nguyen have made their way to the WPT final nine times. But so far the top man is Gus Hansen with his awesome ten WPT finals.
So will Ivey succeed in winning tomorrow? If he won, his earnings from the live tournaments would exceed 14 million dollars.
Below the finalists and the prizes:
Seat 1: Phil Ivey – 1,595,000
Seat 2: Justin “Boosted J” Smith – 2,100,000
Seat 3: Rob Akery – 1,980,000
Seat 4: Eric Afriat – 620,000
Seat 5: Moritz Kranich – 2,715,000

The 7th season of the WSOP Circuit will start in August
WSOP has announced the WSOP Circuit Tour schedule for the season 2010-2011.
The WSOP Circuit Tour will start its seventh season in August. It also looks like the tournament is gonna be bigger and better than ever before. This 7th season will include at least 12 tour stops - and presumably there will be even more of these.
The 7th season will also involve some innovations which the organizers naturally classify as improvements:
- A Cumulative Player Point System for the whole season.
- The WSOP Circuit National Championship tournament (televised nationally) in which the Top 100 players (who have accumulated most points) will qualify.
- Four regional WSOP Circuit Championships happenings (buy-ins $10k and 2 hrs of TV broadcasting/each happening).
- Standardized structures and pay-outs.
The WSOP Circuit 2010-2011 will start on August 19th from Iowa (Horseshoe Council Bluffs) and will continue until May 2011 when poker shall be played at Harrah’s New Orleans.

Jack Ury, 97, continues in the WSOP 2010 Main Event
We’ve got a real steel grandpa in the WSOP 2010 Main Event! Jack Ury who was born in Indiana 97 years ago made it through the first two days and will continue to the third tournament day.

On 2+2 forum Ury’s family receives a lot of praise. The nick “fire_sqaud” reports having seen how the family pushes him in a wheelchair all around Rio - to the toilet, to eat during the tournament breaks and so on. Ury, who found poker in 1953, amused the audience on purpose or unintentionally by taking more than doubles with his small stack.
From the big blind Ury went all-in with his king pair and asked - as the board was K2J87 -“Did I win?” and laughed merrily as his opponent was holding 3h-9s. Perhaps the most senior player of the tournament is slightly senile or maybe he just presents the stereotype of a Vegas steel papa?

Doyle Brunson’s WSOP: a pure nightmare
The legendary Doyle Brunson told to Pokernewsdaily that this year’s WSOP has been a sheer nightmare for him…

Brunson played eight tournaments and made the second day six times but couldn’t cash at all. He says that the 2nd and 3rd days of the WSOP tournaments are always good fun - and being eliminated on the second day without any cashes is the worst possible fate since getting through the first day is the most difficult part.
Numerous visits at the dentist hardly eased his WSOP, and Doyle admits the whole thing got on his nerves. “Those gum treatments were supposed to be over in 4-5 months, but this has taken already eight months. I’ve got seven implants in my mouth which feels like getting on a carousel and not being able to get off.”
According to Brunson, Dan “djk123″ Kelly who secured his place in The Brunson 10 by winning the $25k NLHE 6-max is a nice young man - even though he looks like 14-year old boy. Handpicking the entourage of young players, Brunson tells there has been a long list of candidates in the selection process which is why he organized a race between the most promising players.
After Dan Kelly joined the team, seven places of The Brunson 10 are now taken. These young players are: Zachary Clark, Amit Makhija, Dani Stern, Chris Moorman, Alex Kamberis, Steve Gross and Dan Kelly.

Frank Kassela WSOP’s Player of The Year
Frank Kassela won two bracelets and the Player of The Year race in WSOP 2010.

So far John Juanda, who took five cashes of which four were from final tables, kept Kassela on his toes until the very end. The solution was seen not until in $25,000 NLHE 6-max. Juanda bubbled in the 19th place when Kassela secured himself five (5) points. Eventually Kassela ranked third in the tournament and cashed over half a million dollars - and took a slim lead in Player of The Year competition.
Kassela conquered five cashes and profited in total two bracelets and more than $1,2 million dollars from the WSOP 2010. This year six players have managed to cash over a million bucks in the WSOP, but this all will change with the Main Event (where the Top 8 will receive over million dollars). The top earner of the summer is still Michael Mizrachi who won the $50k Players’ Championship.
Player of The Year / Top 5
1. Frank Kassela / 285 (five cashes, three final tables, two bracelets)
2. John Juanda / 225 (five cashes, four final tables)
3. Vladimir Schmelev / 210 (four final tables)
4. Dan Heimiller / 205 (seven cashes, two final tables)
5. Michael Mizrachi / 190 (four cashes, three final tables, one bracelet)
