The worst hand in Poker After Dark history?

August 16th, 2011 No Comments   Posted in HighStakesNews.com

The latest Poker After Dark episodes haven’t got that good reviews from the viewers. People have been writing that the new episodes are just plain boring to watch.

There’s one particular hand between Mike Matusow and Phil Hellmuth that really broke the camel’s back - so to speak.

Matusow and Hellmuth get all-in preflop for $183,200, but eventualyl they cut the stack to 21,600 dollars.

Matusow has pair of jacks while Hellmuth holds suited A-K. Matusow hits his set and takes the pot. In the end they just shake their hands really pleased.

You can watch the play here.

Haseeb Qureshi and Daniel Cates dumped chips to José Macedo - Qureshi quits poker

August 11th, 2011 No Comments   Posted in HighStakesNews.com

Daniel “jungleman12″ Cates and Haseeb “INTERNETPOKERS” Qureshi gave a fresh interview to Bluff Magazine. They’re talking about the José “Girah” Macedo scam case pretty deeply.

Daniel “jungleman12″ Cates and Haseeb “INTERNETPOKERS” Qureshi

In the interview Haseeb Qureshi confesses that he dumped chips worth of 100,000 dollars to José Macedo on Merge Network.

“So, I made the account “samchauhan” and put $100k on there, but I wasn’t able to transfer substantial funds to him. Jose told us that the best way to do this quickly (we had been taking a while to get him money as the stake had already been agreed on for over a month but we were slow and lazy to get it organized) was to just chip dump. I said ‘alright, fine,’ and although I knew that getting seen winning $100k from some random account would make girah look good,” Qureshi tells about the chip dumping.

The chip dumping happened at the same time when Bluff Poker Challenge was running from where Macedo got disqualified afterwards. Qureshi insists that it was just a coincidence that the chip dumping happened at the same time (Macedo did indeed win the Challenge).

It is also certain that Macedo had many different accounts on 2+2 forums: at least “Girah” and “LookingforProdigy”. He tried to make the scam look more believable by using different accounts.

Macedo has also faked his PokerTracker results with a really hard hand, they showed him winning millions, but the truth is not as good.

Daniel “jungleman12″ Cates doesn’t bring anything new onto the table. Looks like Cates wasn’t as close to Macedo as Qureshi was.

Qureshi has now confirmed that he is quitting poker altogether. He wrote  quite a long blog post on CardRunners about the whole incident.

“I don’t know what I’m going to do now, but it won’t be poker. I have been playing for 5 years. I started with a free $50 bonus when I was 16 years old, and have since made well over a million dollars playing poker,” Qureshi says.

Daniel “jungleman12? Cates: “Should be playing online within a week or so”

August 10th, 2011 No Comments   Posted in HighStakesNews.com

Looks like Daniel “jungleman12″ Cates has worked out everything in his life and is able to do an online comeback soon! Which is actually nice as the online games have been in hiatus for a while now.

Cates was supposed to move to Portugal to José “Girah” Macedo’s place with Haseeb “INTERNETPOKERS” Qureshi, but after “Girah’s” scam came into public knowledge, it would have been quite stupid move to go to Portugal.

Cates has now written to his Twitter: “should be playing online within a week or so”

It is not yet certain where to Cates is moving, but it looks like he went to Britain.

Mike Matusow also started a rumor about Cates some time ago. Matusow says that Cates has over 6 million dollars stuck on Full Tilt Poker.

August 3rd, 2011 No Comments   Posted in HighStakesNews.com

We just wrote about Daniel Cates a few days ago as he got deported from Canada. Well, after his quick visit to Canada he’s now speaking about moving to Europe.

Cates has decided to move to Portugal and with Haseeb “INTERNETPOKERS” Quresh. They’re going to stay with Jose “Girah” Macedo, who lives there.

“I’m sure many of you have heard by now that Jungle was denied access to Canada. It’s a bit silly, but long story short, our plans to relocate to Vancouver have sort of been canned overnight. It’s unfortunate, as I was really looking forward to experiencing Vancouver and hanging out with Galfond and company.”

“Now our plans have reverted back to going to Portugal after all - most likely Lisbon. Jungle and I will be living with Jose “Girah” Macedo and will be flying out there sometime in the coming week.”

Full Tilt Poker’s future: Hearing moved to September 15

July 27th, 2011 No Comments   Posted in HighStakesNews.com

PokerNews was present in yesterday’s hearing for Full Tilt Poker in London and they were kind enough to update their Twitter live.

Full Tilt Poker attorneys wanted to move the hearing in the future and eventually Alderney agreed this. The new date for the hearing is September 15th.

Full Tilt justified the move because it would be best for the intrest of their players. Full Tilt can now continue to talk with some investors.

Other interesting bits from the hearing:

The only really new piece of information that came to light so far is that Full Tilt owes the AGCC around £250,000 in licensing fees.

Professional poker player Harry Demetriou, who was in attendance, stood up and stormed out, shouting “What about the interests of the players? Why you are protecting this corrupt company?”

So, the players still have to wait for the conclusion until September 15th.

Poker Players Alliance instucts how to get money out from Full Tilt, UB.com and Absolute Poker

July 14th, 2011 No Comments   Posted in HighStakesNews.com

Poker Players Alliance (PPA) has created a synopsis about the means and methods about how to get your money back from Full Tilt Poker, UB.com and Absolute Poker.

The aforementioned poker sites have not yet paid back the money they owe to their players after the “Poker Black Friday”. The only site which has managed to come clean after it, is PokerStars.

PPA tells that they have no sensible means to go in the court as an organization, but there’s no obstacles for players to sue the companies behind those aforementioned poker sites. We suggest all US players to read through the synopsis, which can be found here, and think about a lawsuit.

UK going to tighten up their gaming terms: Gambling sites need to have UK license

July 14th, 2011 No Comments   Posted in HighStakesNews.com

John Penrose, UK Minister responsible for gambling policy and regulation, has announced that UK will demand all gambling sites to have a UK Gambling License (UK Gambling Commission) in the future.

At the moment every site can offer games to UK citizens if they have their licenses effective and legitimate in the territories they’re working on.

It is no surprise that the tightened laws are the result of the “Poker Black Friday”, the closure of Full Tilt Poker and the suspected license offences (Alderney license).

It is believed that the tightened laws will come into effect around 1013-1014.

FBI hits the casinos in tribal resort

July 14th, 2011 No Comments   Posted in HighStakesNews.com

FBI has raided the tribal resort casinos in Mississippi; Silver Star Hotel & Casino and Golden Moon Hotel & Casino, which both belong to Pearl River Resort. The raids were part of a criminal investigation to gather evidence against them.

Former U.S. Attorney Doug Jones comments the case: “there was probable cause to believe that a federal felony crime was committed and that there was evidence of that crime at those facilities.”

It is the first time when FBI hits tribal resort targets.

It is believed that FBI seized at least the harddisks from the Casinos.

FBI haven’t commented the case yet, but the investigation is part of a federal investigation which might be connected to the “Poker Black Friday”.

WSOP Main Event starts today - How many players will there be?

July 7th, 2011 No Comments   Posted in HighStakesNews.com

World Series of Poker will end after the Main Event which starts today. There’s four starting days in the $10,000 “World Championship” NLHE tournament.

The tournament will be played from July 7th to 19th and the actual final table, the “November Nine”, will be played from November 5th to 7th.

There was 7,319 players in the Main Event last year, which made it the second biggest Event in the history of WSOP. The biggest Main Event was in 2006 when 8,773 players played the tournament.

There has been small decline in the player numbers after 2006 as UIGEA hit USA and this year the “Poker Black Friday” affected all the US players on Full Tilt Poker and PokerStars.

What does the players and organizers think about the player numbers?

Tournament organizer Robbie Thompson believes that the happenings in USA will not affect the numbers in Main Event.

Annie Duke thinks that the numbers will be drastically lower than in last year because there hasn’t been that many online satellites to the Main Event.

Nolan Dolla, WSOP Media Executive didn’t want to comment the question as they don’t want to mke any predictions.

Michael Mizrachi on the other hand is willing to bet about the numbers. He believes there’s going to be less than 4,964 players.

The godfather of poker, Doyle “Texas Dolly” Brunson let all his fans know that he won’t be chasing his 11th WSOP bracelet this year anymore. He hasn’t made it to the cash for two years now and thinks that he isn’t in a good shape to grind tournaments at all.

Before the $50,000 Poker Player’s Championship Brunson told that it might be his last tournament if it doesn’t go as planned. “Texas Dolly” was eliminated on the second day and vented out his frustration on Twitter:

“Busted… Total nightmare… Goodbye WSOP”

Quickly after his Twitter update he told he is going to skip the Main Event as well. One of the reason is the “Poker Black Friday”. Brunson tells that he has lost his passion to poker after the “Black Friday” and he has also faced lots of personal problems in the last eight months.

78 years old Brunson has made his last WSOP cash two years ago: June 18th 2009.
