Durrrr, Jungleman12 Biggest Winners on Full Tilt in 2010

October 13th, 2010 No Comments   Posted in pokerNewsDaily.com

HighStakesDB.com released its biggest winners and losers report for 2010 late last week, and the online tracking site revealed that Tom “durrrr” Dwan and Daniel “jungleman12” Cates are the biggest earners at Full Tilt Poker‘s nosebleed cash games. The two rising stars, who are currently facing off against one another in the second edition of the Durrrr Challenge, are both up more than $4 million this year.

As of October 10, Dwan was the biggest winner on Full Tilt Poker, racking up $4,028,872 in winnings, while Cates was close behind with $4,001,593. Cates has taken a good chunk from Dwan during their challenge, as the 20-year-old CardRunners instructor leads Dwan by $657,774 after 7,660 hands. Should Cates still be on top after 50,000 hands, Dwan would owe him $1.5 million on top of the winnings Cates had accumulated. If Dwan comes back and wins the challenge, Cates will have to pony up $500,000.

The third biggest winner on Full Tilt this year is none other than Phil Ivey, who has accrued more than $3 million in profits despite playing far less volume than most of his adversaries. Ivey is the all-time winningest online poker player since HighStakesDB began tracking in February of 2007, piling up $18,747,970 in earnings over 5,078 sessions. Ivey is also the most profitable player on the live tournament circuit with around $13.6 million in cashes. One can only imagine how much more Ivey has made while playing high-stakes cash games around the world, especially in Bobby’s Room at the Bellagio.

Rounding out the top 10 winners on Full Tilt so far this year are Andreas “skjervoy” Torbergsen ($2.5 million), “LokoIsBack” ($2.44 million), Jared “harrington25″ Bleznick ($2.4 million), Alexander “PostflopAction” Kostritsyn ($1.63 million), David Benefield ($1.36 million), “NEKOTYAN” ($1.24 million), and Ashton “theASHMAN103″ Griffin ($1.23 million).

HighStakesDB reported that former CardRunners instructor and Full Tilt Poker Pro Brian “sbrugby” Townsend is the biggest loser on Full Tilt Poker this year. Townsend, who infamously teamed up with Cole South to help friend Brian Hastings take down “Isildur1” for the largest payday in online poker history late last year, finds himself down nearly $4 million in 2010. Townsend lost $2.53 million while playing under his Red Pro account before stepping down as CardRunners’ lead instructor in June. Since then, Townsend has lost $1.4 million more under the name “sbrugby,” the handle under which he built his massive online bankroll while moving up in stakes.

Gus Hansen comes in as the second largest loser, down $3.67 million through Sunday. According to HighStakesDB, Hansen has lost $10,043,788 since 2007. The “Great Dane” recently won his first World Series of Poker (WSOP) bracelet in London, but the £228,409 payday doesn’t quite make up for his monstrous online losses.

The other biggest losers on Full Tilt this year include “Matatuk” ($1.54 million), Cole South ($1.45 million), Justin “ZeeJustin” Bonomo ($1.44 million), Rafi “howisitfeellike” Amit (1.31 million), “Esvedra” ($1.3 million), Richard Ashby ($1.29 million), and “PixKim” ($1.2 million).

Leaving London And Tony “Bond18” Dunst’s New Gig From Twitter In Poker

October 5th, 2010 No Comments   Posted in pokerNewsDaily.com

The blitzkrieg of poker in London has finally come to an end, with many in the poker world reporting their success – or failure – on the felt over Twitter as they return home.

One of the players who seemed down about taking a nice score was Andrew Robl. “Busted in 3rd for 198K Pounds,” Robl Tweeted after exiting the European Poker Tour’s (EPT) £20,000 High Roller Event on Monday. “Disappointed. Played ok, made one call I didn’t like. Lost 1.6 mill pot near end with AJ vs A8.” Someone who was a bit happier about their performance was Full Tilt pro John Juanda, who Tweeted, “Finished 2nd in EPT London (£500,000). Not too bad for 5 day work! Congrats to the Champ David Vamplew.”

With the EPT Main Event and High Roller Event out of the way, there were still two tournaments on tap for those wanting a last bit of action before heading out of London. “One final event in London today,” Scott Montgomery reported to his fans. “1K turbo bounty. Flying to Vegas tomorrow for WPT.” The turbo tournament didn’t go so well for Montgomery, as he busted on Tuesday in slightly over two hours. “Insta bust on a coin flip. sigh. London was a total waste,” he ruefully Tweeted. Also running bad in the turbo were Jason Mercier (“Busto turbo. Busted w bout 30 people left. 70 played meh lost a big flip. Can’t wait to go home tomorrow.”) and Scott Seiver (“Now official, bricked London. Looking forward to the other side of the Atlantic again.”).

For those that didn’t want to participate in the final events of the EPT London, the NBA’s annual pilgrimage to Europe, featuring the World Champion Los Angeles Lakers against the Minnesota Timberwolves, was prime viewing Monday night. “Many thanks to Frank Mariani and Jerry Buss for 3rd row center Lakers tickets at the O2 in London,” Allen Kessler chirped. “Finally heading back to the states today.” Also at the game due to Buss’ generosity was Chad Brown, who Tweeted, “Went to see the Lakers play in London last night with the Lakers owner and some friends. Flying back to Vegas today.”

Christian “charder30” Harder was also at the Lakers game, where he noted the popularity of Lakers guard Kobe Bryant. “So many Kobe jerseys everywhere. Kobe is so huge all over the world. Funny b/c he might not be the best player on his own team anymore.” After catching some heat over his Twitter account, Harder fired back, “I know blasphemy! Casual fans can’t comprehend that LeBron and Wade are better then Kobe. Btw I am a Kobe fan… as crazy as it sounds.”

The casting call for “The Raw Deal,” the new segment on the World Poker Tour (WPT) broadcasts, have been completed, with young poker professional Tony “Bond18” Dunst being named the host. Congratulations rolled in for Dunst, with Jonathan Aguiar chirping, “Congrats to Bond on landing the WPT Raw Deal gig, despite the fact he’s just doing it to hit on the Royal Flush Girls.” Alex Outhred also handed out some laurels to Dunst, Tweeting, “2nd best choice after me!” Dunst was welcomed to the WPT fold by Kimberly Lansing, who Tweeted, “Welcome to the team, @Bond_18!

Stepping up to the role of movie and television critics on Twitter were two top professionals in the world of poker. “Was a movie weekend for me,” Jennifer Harman reported to her followers. “Saw The Town and The Social Network. Thought both were excellent movies.” Carter King, for his part, was on the tube watching “Pawn Stars” and commenting, “Watching pawn stars lady brings in jewelry ask for 2K, guy says he has conscience and offers her 15K, she then ask for more. Normally I’d make fun of guy but, on a TV show, making that move is worth way more then the 13K he could of made by screwing her.”

For the best Tweets of the past few days, we start with the always reliable Doyle Brunson: “I disagree with Kay Jewelers. More kisses (and other stuff) begin with Miller Lite than with Kay.” Joe Reitman made an observation about clothing styles when he Tweeted, “A young kid wears a vintage Iron Maiden shirt & its hip. I wear it & I look like a dude who went to the concert 20 years ago & never evolved.” Finally, Prahlad Friedman explained his recent lack of success in poker: Cole South once told me that I have figured out poker, but I’m addicted to experimenting with different styles. Been experimenting lately.”

“Skjervoy” wins big in September, Dwan has started October strong

October 5th, 2010 No Comments   Posted in HighStakesNews.com

September was truly a railbird’s month as there was loads of good action on Full Tilt Poker, even though the tournaments in London (WPT, WSOPE and EPT) took some online time off from the players.

September’s biggest winner was eventually Andreas “Skjervoy” Torbergson, who was over 1,5 mllion dollars. Most of his winnings came from the new player called “cadillac1944″. “Cadillac1944″ had some great swings, but only managed to lose about $80k in the end.

Other big winners in September were Ilari Sahamies ($620k), “DrugsOrMe” ($575k) and “deprimiert” ($532k).

Two biggest losers were Cole South (-$1,4M) and Brian Townsend (-$1,06M).

More results from September:

October came along with Dwan and his $1,3 million winnings

It looks like the action is even wilder this month. Tom Dwan has made $1,3 million in the first four days. Most of his winnings came from Ilari Sahamies who has already lost $1,25 million this month.

Apart from Dwan, “Skejervoy” has started the new month really well. He has already grinded up over 646k dollars, while Gus Hansen is losing more and more.

Also “Isildur1″ has made a brief appear on Full Tilt. His comeback didn’t go that well as he lost almost $110k.

BLOG – November is Isildur1 time; jungleman12 takes over durrrr’s mantle

October 4th, 2010 No Comments   Posted in BluffEurope.com
Remember how goddamn crazy online poker went last November when Isildur1 emerged at the high stakes and nosebleed games on Full Tilt? It was pretty mental; he went from thrashing the likes of Haseeb “INTERNET POKERS” Quereshi to Cole South, Brian Townsend, Ziigmund and Patrik Antonius. The only person he seemed unable to beat, or at least hesitant to play against, at heads-up No Limit was Phil Ivey.

Ziigmund Annihilates Gus Hansen

September 30th, 2010 No Comments   Posted in PokerListings.com

Within one week of winning his first WSOP bracelet and doing reasonably well on the high stakes online tables, Gus Hansen was mercilessly beat for nearly $900k in 1,187 hands.

Hansen played heads-up $500/$1,000 Cap PLO exclusively last night and took on Sahamies, Cole South and Skjervoy at various times throughout the night.

It was not a great night for the Great Dane who lost on every table. The session against Ziigmund was by far the worst as the Finn raked over $600k from Hansen.

South added to his misery by winning $100k and Skjervoy, who seems to be on a heater as of late, also won $97k.

Hansen is now down $2.5 million in 2010 and a very long shot to get back to even before the year concludes.

In other high stakes online news, Andrew “good2cu” Robl had a particularly strong night winning $340,554 in 749 hands of $100/$200 Six-Max PLO. Robl’s main victim was Esvedra who lost $157k in those games.

Hansen was joined in the losing column by harrington25 who dropped $151k and Cole South who, despite his win versus Hansen, still finished down $55k.

Dwan, Hansen Dominate Week

September 24th, 2010 No Comments   Posted in PokerListings.com

In a week where many thought the live cash games in London might be rolling the two Team Full Tilt pros bumped their respective downswings and each made over $700k online.

Hansen had a particularly busy week as he became one of the final two players at the WSOPE £10k Heads-Up tournament and recorded 11,979 hands on Full Tilt.

The Great Dane was finally able to get away from the dangerous Pot-Limit Omaha tables, where he tends to dump buckets of cash, and convince opponents to play him in high stakes H.O.R.S.E. and Pot-Limit Omaha Hi-Lo games.

It was in those games he took significant stacks from Di “Urindanger” Dang, Patrik Antonius, Tom Dwan to finish the week up $758k.

Hansen is still stuck $1.6 million in 2010 but it’s a vast improvement from the $2.4 million he was down a couple weeks ago.

Meanwhile the majority of Dwan’s profit’s came from Ilari “Ziigmund” Sahamies. The swingy Finn had been extremely hot over the last few weeks but Dwan cooled him right down in a massive $500/$1,000 PLO session.

Dwan managed to take $554k from Ziigmund before the Finn finally quit out of frustration. By the end of the week Dwan was up a total of $724k. That means Dwan is now up $3.9 million in 2010 which tops the leaderboard.

Some of the other movers and shakers this week included DrugsOrMe (+$354k), David Benefield (+$291k) and David Oppenheim (+$292k).

The players on the losing end included Brian “sbrugby” Townsend (-$536k), URnotINdanger2 (-$458k), Ziigmund (-$370k), Brian Hastings (-$342k) and Cole South (-$334k). London bad boy Luke “FullFlush” Schwartz also made a rare appearance losing $116k.

Dwan durrrrs Ziigmund for $554k

September 22nd, 2010 No Comments   Posted in PokerListings.com

Dwan was extremely busy last night playing nearly 4,000 hands of everything from $50/$100 PLO to $1,500/$3,000 H.O.R.S.E.

The action really heated up when he started playing Sahamies at both $200/$400 and $500/$1,000 PLO with no cap.

The pair played 841 hands against each other with several absolutely gigantic pots raked. Ziigmund actually won the biggest pot when his turned a nut flush against Dwan. A total of $380k was sent to Ziigmund in that hand alone.

By the end of the session Dwan and Ziigmund owned nine of the top 10 biggest pots that were recorded in our online poker stats section last night.

Despite winning the biggest hand, Ziigmund was nowhere close to winning the session. In fact the swingy Finn lost $554k to Dwan over their four-hour session.

The session marked the end of a Ziigmund winning streak that saw him win $1.2 million from Cole South over the last two weeks.

Meanwhile Tom Dwan is once again the biggest winner of 2010 with $4.1 million. His nemesis jungleman12 is in second place with $3.6 million.

Some of the other big winners from last night included DrugsOrMe (+$272k), Gus Hansen (+$136k) and LokoIsBack ($121k).

Cole South’s troubles continued as he lost $242k. Another former CardRunners instructor, Brian “sbrugby” Townsend, lost $218k and theASHMAN103 dropped $121k.

Last night railbirds also had the rare opportunity to witness some Luke “FullFlush” Schwartz action.

The infamous Londoner played over 5,000 hands of $50/$100 PLO and NLHE and ended up losing $116,736 to URnotINdanger2.

Here are a few of the biggest hands from last night. Be sure to check out our online poker stats section for more information.

The Online Railbird Report: Sahamies Scores Big Against South and Hastings

September 21st, 2010 No Comments   Posted in PokerNews.com
A recap of the high-stakes cash game action on Full Tilt Poker. This week, Ilari "Ziigmund" Sahamies won more than $800,000 from CardRunners pros Cole South and Brian Hastings.

deprimiert Has $166k Payday

September 21st, 2010 No Comments   Posted in PokerListings.com

Over the last couple months deprimiert has been playing numerous sessions against the two Team Full Tilt Pros at $2,000/$4,000 Limit Hold’em.

The last couple weeks, however, saw deprimiert go on a serious downswing losing nearly $500,000, mostly to Ivey and Antonius.

Last night deprimiert, as usual, logged on and recorded over one hundred hands against Ivey and Antonius at a $2,000/$4,000 Six-Max Limit table.

deprimiert eventually escaped with a small profit of $26,973 but he then turned his attentions to a heads-up game of $2,000/$4,000 Limit against fellow online grinder Malestra Pam.

Suddenly the money started to funnel towards deprimiert and after roughly two hours the German had won $140k.

The victory pulls deprimiert almost even for the year. It’s anyone’s guess as to whether he will go right back to playing Ivey and Antonius.

Other big winners of the night included harrrington25 who won $127k and Gus Hansen who scored $60k.

The biggest loser was the aforementioned Malestra Pam who plunked down $141k against deprimiert as well as LokoIsBack (-$79k), Cole South (-$76k) and bixiu (-$64k).

durrrr Posts $365k Weekend

September 20th, 2010 No Comments   Posted in PokerListings.com

Dwan had no problem playing a little bit of everything this weekend from $5/$10 Heads-Up No-Limit Hold’em against MagicNinja all the way up to $500/$1,000 Heads-Up Cap PLO against Gus Hansen.

In total Dwan played nearly 3,000 hands with the majority of his profits coming from a $300/$600 session that included regulars such as Cole South, URnotINdanger2, Harrington25, trex313 and Hansen.

Dwan earned $426k in the $300/$600 PLO sessions alone but he donated $95k back to Hansen in the $500/$1,000 Heads-Up Cap PLO match.

The win boosts Dwan up to $3.63 million for the year. The race for most profitable online player of the year is still very close with Phil Ivey currently the slim favorite with $3.66 million earned. Ivey lost $187k this weekend.

The problem for Dwan is that at some point he’s probably going to have to face jungleman12 in the durrrr Challenge and thus far he’s down nearly $700k in the contest.

URnotINdanger2 was by far the biggest loser of the weekend, down an astounding $496k. Other big losers included Brian “sbrugby” Townsend who lost $320k, Hac “trex313” Dang (-$308k) and Gus Hansen (-302k).

Here are a few of the biggest hands from this weekend. Be sure to check out our online poker stats section for more information.

High stakes PLO action – durrrr and Ziigmund win

September 20th, 2010 No Comments   Posted in BluffEurope.com
Ilari “Ziigmund” Sahamies followed up his weekend destruction of Cole South and Brian Hastings with some more PLO action last night. This time the stakes were reduced to ‘just’ $300/$600 and he couldn’t top the leaderboard. That honour went to Tom “durrrr” Dwan who boosted his bankroll by $365,000 in a little under 3,000 hands.

Ilari “Ziigmund” Sahamies earns $815,000 at PLO

September 20th, 2010 No Comments   Posted in BluffEurope.com
The CAP PLO games were boring for railbirds and – apparently – players alike. Ilari “Ziigmund” Sahamies is known for anything if not his gamble and has been wanting fully-stacked Pot-Limit games for a while. He got his wish thanks to Brian Hastings and Cole South, who have really been going at Sahamies on the PLO tables.

Ziigmund Schools South, Hastings for $759k

September 17th, 2010 No Comments   Posted in PokerListings.com

In a three-hour span, Sahamies recorded nearly 1,000 hands of heads-up $500/$1,000 Pot-Limit Omaha against the two.

South, likely still stinging from a $700k loss to Ziigmund last week, ended up losing $602k to the swingy Finn.

The loss erases all of his profits this year putting him down over $800k.

Hastings didn’t do much better, although his $187k loss over 600 hands seemed less significant.

It appears Sahamies has recovered nicely from an awful August, earning nearly $1 million in September so far.

Sahamies is up $1.5 million in 2010 and the majority of his profits have come directly from South’s bankroll.

Although Ziigmund stole the spotlight, there were a number of notable pros also active on Full Tilt last night.

Patrik Antonius had a decent $83k day, Chau “La Key U” Giang earned $63k and Phil Ivey took down $52k. Even Gus Hansen recorded a small profit of $36,000.

The day was bad all around for CardRunners instructors as Brian “sbrugby” Townsend lost $208k. Limit specialist deprimiert also continued his downward spiral by losing $53k.

Here are a few of the biggest hands from last night. Be sure to check out our online poker stats section for more information.

Antonius Takes $303k Beating

September 15th, 2010 No Comments   Posted in PokerListings.com

Malestra Pam, who is rumored to be a Russian Limit Hold’em specialist, played 1,423 hands of $2,000/$4,000 Limit Hold’em against Antonius.

Antonius never really seemed to find his legs against Malestra Pam and, despite winning the biggest pot of the session when he turned a set of deuces, ended up a massive loser.

September has been a rough month for Antonius who now finds himself $229k in the hole over the first two weeks of the month.

Meanwhile it’s been a far different experience for Malestra Pam who’s earned $490k, which makes him the most profitable player of the month.

Some of the other big winners of the evening included superbaldas who made $157k playing $300/$600 PLO against Ziigmund and the NUTHUNTER who earned $93k playing $200/$400 No-Limit Hold’em against tuff_fish.

Yesterday’s losers included Gus Hansen, who added to a miserable September by dropping $123k, Cole South (-$88k), Phil “OMGClayAiken” Galfond (-$86k) and harrington25 (-$42k).

Here’s a look at several of the biggest hands from last night. Be sure to check out our online poker stats section for more information.

The Online Railbird Report: Sahamies and Antonius Top the Leaderboard

Ziigmund hits back; wins $745,000 from Cole South

September 13th, 2010 No Comments   Posted in BluffEurope.com
Finnish online poker legend Ilari “Ziigmund” Sahamies is well-known for his huge swings so it came as no surprise that he had lost more than three-quarters of a million dollars to the dynamic duo of Brian Hastings and Cole South playing high stakes Omaha.

Benefield Burns Ziigmund for $160k

September 13th, 2010 No Comments   Posted in PokerListings.com

Sahamies and Benefield played over 500 hands of $500/$1,000 Cap PLO with Benefield taking over near the end of the session, winning the majority of the biggest pots.

Finally, after Benefield had picked up $160k, they decided to end the session. Sahamies wasn’t pleased with the outcome and voiced his feelings in the chatbox.

“Ziigmund: i take your money later if u havent lost those for someone else” “Ziigmund: f fish” “Ziigmund: biggest fish”

It’s been a good year for Benefield who has now has earned a total of $1.2 million in 2010 with very few swings.

The polar opposite is true for Ziigmund who started the year down $600k, rocketed up to $2.3 million in profit, lost it all and was down $600k at one point last month.

Fortunately for Ziigmund, he was able to finish August strong booking a win in a massive session with Cole South to boost his earnings to $826k. Despite this weekend’s loss, he’s still up over $700k in 2010.

Sahamies wasn’t the only player to lose some cash this weekend as Gus Hansen dropped $176k. Hansen started 2010 up over $2 million, but has been in a virtual freefall since and is now down $2.4 million.

The biggest loser over the weekend, however, was Sauce1234 who lost a total of $307,189.

A number of well-known players including Phil Ivey, Tom “durrrr” Dwan and Patrik Antonius were inactive this weekend. Ivey and Dwan have already been spotted around London and with the World Series of Poker Europe beginning Tuesday, the rest of the high-stakes community should follow.

Ziigmund, jungleman12 Finish Week on Top

September 10th, 2010 No Comments   Posted in PokerListings.com

Sahamies was actually down $80,000 before yesterday, when he went on absolutely tear against Cole South, extracting $709k over a few hours in $500/$1,000 PLO.

It was one of the biggest days for Sahamies this year and one of the biggest sessions of 2010.

Meanwhile jungleman12 continues to impress poker fans with his consistent play. This week Cates recorded about 1,000 hands of $100/$200 PLO, $500/$1,000 NLHE and even $25/$50 NLHE to bag $384,980 for the week.

There’s a good chance a few months ago most casual fans hadn’t even heard of jungleman12 but thanks to the durrrr Challenge and overall strong play he’s now one of the most talked about online cash game players.

Cates is currently second in 2010 online earnings with $3.7 million and is looking to overtake Phil Ivey who is first with $3.8 million.

For his part Ivey was one of the biggest winners of the week with $256k profit in just over 500 hands.

Brian Hastings had a swingy week that saw him come out of the weekend $582k ahead but then he proceeded to donate a large portion of it back throughout the week. He finished up $255k.

Cole South was the biggest loser of the week thanks to his disastrous match against Ziigmund yesterday. South ended up down $648,000 over the week.

Next up was Limit specialist deprimiert who recorded huge losses against both Phil Ivey and Patrik Antonius in $2,000/$4,000 Limit Hold’em. deprimiert lost $482,017 this week.

The durrrr cold streak also continued this week as Tom Dwan lost $223k. Dwan has been unable to return to his winning ways after hitting a serious roadblock in the durrrr Challenge against jungleman12.

Ziigmund strikes back at Brian Hastings at PLO

September 9th, 2010 No Comments   Posted in BluffEurope.com
Finnish online legend Ilari “Ziigmund” Sahamies has had a horrid start to September. He is down over $500,000 in just over 1,000 hands and it is largely down to the combined efforts of Brian Hastings and Cole South; the former is up over $500,000 in the same time period.

Ziigmund Strikes South for $700k

September 9th, 2010 No Comments   Posted in PokerListings.com

South and Sahamies faced off in a series of heads-up $500/$1,000 PLO matches over two tables. Unlike many of the PLO games that have been going on recently, they decided to play the non-Cap version of the game.

After a couple hours Ziigmund started to pull away from South and near the end of the session it turned into an all-out bloodbath.

Ziigmund raked numerous pots that were worth over $150,000 and at one point had $1.2 million spread across both tables.

After 791 hands South had apparently reached his breaking point and offered the obligatory “gg” before leaving. Ziigmund finished up $709k, which is his biggest score in months, while South ended up down $638k.

The always swingy Ziigmund improved from being almost even in 2010 to nearly $1 million earned while South, who had a terrific start to 2010 with nearly $2 million won, falls down to about $900k profit for the year.

Several big name players were busy last night as skervoy won $247,157, Dan “jungleman12” Cates took $161k and Phil Ivey added $137k to his online bankroll.

Meanwhile durrrr was a big loser, dropping $247k and Di “Urindanger” Dang also didn’t fare well losing $218k.

Here are a few of the biggest hands from the session earlier today. Be sure to check out our online poker stats section for more information.

September 1st – Daily Deal

September 2nd, 2010 No Comments   Posted in pokerNewsDaily.com

On today’s edition of the Daily Deal, Barney Frank may step down as Financial Services Committee Chairman; the World Poker Tour and Fox Sports Net extend a partnership; and Gus “The Great Dane” Hansen gets taken to the cleaners by Phil Ivey and Cole South.

Hello, I’m Sean Gibson and welcome to the Daily Deal by Poker News Daily.

In November, the United States will hold its general elections. On Capitol Hill, the entire House of Representatives and one-third of the Senate will be determined. If after the elections Republicans gain control of the House, then Congressman Barney Frank’s time as the Financial Services Committee Chairman may come to an end, and in the worst case scenario he would be replaced by notoriously anti-gaming Congressman Spencer Bachus.

Frank has been one of the strongest supporters of the legalization of online poker and he is currently promoting HR 2267, the Internet Gambling Regulation, Consumer Protection, and Enforcement Act. The bill was marked up in the Financial Services Committee in late July and has received the support of seventy co-sponsors. Frank has been in the House since 1980 and served as the Financial Services Committee Chairman since 2007.

The World Poker Tour and Fox Sports Net announced this week that they will continue their broadcast and promotional relationship, settling on an agreement that will stretch until 2013. The World Poker Tour’s ninth Season will begin airing in January two thousand eleven, starting with the Bellagio Cup.

The broadcast will have several improvements, including new anchor Kimberly Lansing and the introduction of the beautiful Royal Flush Girls. Season nine will also debut a yet-to-be-named new analyst who will host a recurring segment called “The Raw Deal.”

New World Poker Tour CEO Steve Heller said: “This season promises to be unlike any previous incarnations of the WPT … The shows will be faster-paced and edgier, featuring the biggest names in poker mixing it up with more up-and-coming stars, pre-final table action, and, as always, poker’s greatest and most recognizable play-by-play commentary team of Mike Sexton and Vince Van Patten.”

HighStakesDB.com has reported that hyper-aggressive pro Gus Hansen lost over one million dollars last Sunday… to just two opponents.

Cole South of CardRunners fame and eight-time World Series of Poker bracelet winner Phil Ivey took Hansen for more than one point one million dollars, almost half of the “Great Dane’s” net losses on the year. HighStakesDB – which tracks the action at high-stakes online poker tables – reported that Hansen’s losses Sunday came primarily in two and four thousand Fixed Limit Omaha Hi-Lo. He lost nearly $400,000 to Ivey in that game along with $99,000 to South, and an additional three hundred and thirty five thousand in Omaha Eight or Better when it was part of a Seven Game rotation.

All told, Hansen is down $2.3 million dollars for this year, while Ivey has cashed $3.5 million on online play. South is up eighty thousand due to a recent downswing.

Guess we should be asking for holiday gifts from Ivey, South and Jungleman this year!

Cole South, Phil Ivey Dominate Gus Hansen Sunday

August 31st, 2010 No Comments   Posted in pokerNewsDaily.com

The big live tournaments that make the poker headlines each week come and go, but the ring game tables never sleep. Action is always plentiful in the virtual poker world. Perhaps nobody knows this better than Gus Hansen, who is famous for his significant bankroll swings in online poker. In what was likely one of his worst days ever, HighStakesDB.com has reported that Hansen lost over $1 million dollars Sunday… to just two opponents.

Cole South and eight-time World Series of Poker bracelet winner Phil Ivey took Hansen for more than $1.1 million on the final weekend day of August, accounting for almost half of the “Great Dane’s” net losses on the year. HighStakesDB – which tracks the action at high-stakes online poker tables – reported that Hansen’s losses Sunday came primarily in $2,000/$4,000 Fixed Limit Omaha Hi-Lo. He lost $358,000 to Ivey in that game along with $99,000 to South, and to make matters worse, he even lost $335,000 in Omaha Eight or Better when it was part of a Seven Game rotation.

All told during 2010, Hansen is down $2.3 million according to the records kept by HighStakesDB. He started off the year strong, peaking at $2.3 million in the black in January. His current deficit is his low point of the year so far. Despite his poor run in the Omaha Hi-Lo portion of HORSE on Sunday, it looks like Hansen should stick to HORSE, as he is up over $1.7 million in the Fixed Limit format of the mixed game in 2010.

Ivey and South, on the other hand, have had good 2010′s so far, and of course, HighStakesDB only counts online games, so they could be doing even better in live games. Ivey is up an astounding $3.5 million in internet competition this year and is on the rise, as that mark is his high point. He hit his valley back in March, when he was down $117,000. Ivey’s best game has been Fixed Limit HORSE, in which he was won $1.5 million. He is at least break-even in each game type for which HighStakesDB has records.

South has not won nearly as much as Ivey, but it is safe to say that the average person would love to have made $78,825 through the first eight months of the year. It’s a far cry from his high water point in February, when he was up $3.5 million. Just last month, though, South was down $260,000, so being above break-even means that he has had a nice few weeks recently. Fixed Limit Omaha Hi-Lo has been South’s best game, netting him almost a half million dollars.

Gus Hansen loses over $1.1m at $2k/$4k Limit Omaha 8

On Sunday night Phil Ivey and Cole South beat the crap out of Gus Hansen at the $2,000/$4,000 fixed limit Omaha 8 tables at Full Tilt Poker; the Great Dane lost a total of $1,114,500 between that game and the 7-game that he took to later.

Gus Hansen’s latest session: Down $1,158,699

August 30th, 2010 No Comments   Posted in HighStakesNews.com

Gus Hansen has been losing a lot. Really, a lot. He managed to lose $1,158,699 last night and he is down almost 2,8 million dollars in August already.

Most of his last night’s losses came from $2k/$4k Omaha Hi/lo and 7-Game against Phil Ivey (+$576k) and Cole South (+$493k).

Hansen’s losses in online poker are now over 9,2 million dollars and we just wonder if he can manage to climb back up… ever.

durrrr Challenge 2: jungleman12 Wins Again

August 30th, 2010 No Comments   Posted in PokerListings.com

Earlier today Tom Dwan and Cates fired off 958 hands of $200/$400 No-Limit Hold'em. It was even for the majority of the session but in the last 200 hands Cates started to crush Dwan.

Dwan actually won the biggest pot of the night - a $131k monster - and would have been in terrible shape if he didn't.

In the hand Dwan turned a set of tens and Cates paid him off on the river, eventually mucking his hand.

By the time the session finally drew to a close, Cates was up by $172,146. Cates is now up $692,400 overall in the challenge, which has surprisingly been very one-sided thus far.

In non-durrrr Challenge news, Gus Hansen had one of his worst weekends of online poker losing $1.1 million to opponents Phil Ivey and Cole South.

Ivey won $678,760 while South added $495,318 to his bankroll. Hansen is now down a stunning $2.3 million since the start of the year.

Durrrr Challenge 2 by the numbers:

692,400: Amount jungleman12 is ahead

314,933: Average cost of a house in Maryland (jungleman12's current location)

6,820: Hands played

1,000: Hourly cost of coaching from jungleman12

61: percentage of hands jungleman12 has won

3: Sessions played

1: Times durrrr has typed "Meh, gg" and then left

Here are some of the biggest hands from the most recent session:

At least durrrr won this one.

Another win by Tom Dwan.

Ziigmund Destroys Ivey for $633k

August 26th, 2010 No Comments   Posted in PokerListings.com

Phil Ivey and Ilari "Ziigmund" Sahamies were the headliners as the pair played 302 hands of heads-up $500/$1,000 PLO and then another 201 hands of heads-up $500/$1,000 Cap PLO.

Prior to last night Ziigmund had been having a hard time getting anything going in August and was down nearly $500,000. He was even thinking of quitting for the month.

It was a far different story for Ivey who was having one of his best months with over $1 million in profits.

The tables were turned last night as Ziigmund took his frustrations out on Ivey, raking multiple $100,000+ pots. A total of four pots broke the $200k mark and Ziigmund won three of them.

By the time the session finished Ivey ended up surrendering $633k to the resurgent Ziigmund before finally calling it quits for the night.

Fortunately due to some huge earlier winnings Ivey was almost even and is still up over $1 million for the month. Meanwhile Ziigmund is up for the first time this month by approximately $200k.

In other news Tom "durrrr" Dwan was a big winner as he continues to cement his status as the biggest winner online this year.

Dwan extracted $588k in an impressive 2,309 hands last night in everything from $100/$200 Cap PLO to $500/$1,000 PLO. He is once again approaching $4.5 million earned in 2010.

NEKOTYAN was a huge loser (-$382,148) as was Cole South (-$303,870) and Patrik Antonius (-$276,899).

Antonius Hammered for $668k

August 25th, 2010 No Comments   Posted in PokerListings.com

Antonius played an epic 908-hand session of $500/$1,000 Pot-Limit Omaha Hi-Lo last night against Cole South, NEKOTYAN, EazyPeazy, Gus Hansen and Phil Ivey.

It wasn't pretty for Antonius and by the time the dust had settled he was down an astounding $697,887.

Antonius went on to play $200/$400 Cap PLO Six-Max and managed to recoup some of his losses but still finished down $668k for the day.

The Finnish Team Full Tilt Pro now finds himself up only $170,071 on the year and is also still down $2 million in the durrrr Challenge with approximately 15,000 hands to go.

CardRunners instructor Cole South was the biggest winner of the PLO Hi-Lo session as he took down $523,404.

Despite his tremendous PLO Hi-Lo session, South still finished down $150,000 thanks to some earlier losses in $200/$400 Cap PLO Six-Max.

NEKOTYAN was the biggest overall winner with $308k in profit.

Gus Hansen continued his downward trend by losing $168k. Hansen admittedly ran poorly but the Great Dane is now down $1.3 million in 2010. He might want to consider taking a brief break from the tables.
