Champ Camp Qualifier Begins WSOP Run

July 6th, 2010 No Comments   Posted in PokerListings.com

A 49-year-old former dealer from Australia, Roberts is hard to miss on Day 1b of the 2010 Main Event with her trademark Australian Bush hat and mosquito veil.

Roberts qualified through PokerListings' exclusive VIP Champion Camp freeroll on 888poker where she outlasted over 700 players to win a seat in the Main Event.

"I've been dreaming of sitting under these lights for so many years," said Roberts. "I was actually planning on 2011 Aussie Millions and hopefully satellite into the Main Event but I was instead able to qualify through PokerListings."

Despite running a king-high flush into an ace-high flush in the first level, Roberts was optimistic about her chances in the tournament.

"I'm calming down a bit," she said. "It takes awhile. This morning I was really, really nervous. Now I'm starting to watch the players and see how they are playing."

Roberts not only won her seat into the tournament but also received her accommodations and flight from PokerListings. She will also get to take part in a number of VIP experiences this summer including shopping sprees and spas.

When Roberts won the package she actually had option of taking the cash for the seat but the fact accommodations and travel were paid for proved too enticing.

"I couldn't miss the opportunity of coming out to the World Series of Poker," she said.

An avid poker fan, Roberts watches the game whenever she can including the WSOP, Aussie Millions or just random YouTube videos.

"I've always been fascinated by it," she said.

Roberts also took a moment to explain her unique choice of headwear.

"It's an Aussie thing to keep out all the flies," she said. "I suppose it's something that identifies who I am and gives me the added bonus that you can't see my face. It's sort of a joke amongst my friends and family."

Roberts and 31-year-old North Dakotan Ben Blair make up the entirety of the PokerListings' Champion Camp this year and will both attempt to parlay their freeroll tournament win into a deep run in this year's WSOP Main Event.

The 2010 WSOP continues through July 17. For comprehensive coverage of the WSOP tune in to PokerListings' Live Updates and News.

Independence Day Weekend In Las Vegas From Poker In Twitter

July 5th, 2010 No Comments   Posted in pokerNewsDaily.com

Whether it was for the various parties going on, the fireworks or the start of the World Series of Poker Championship Event on Monday, the Independence Day weekend brought all the pros to Las Vegas. The Twitterverse was abuzz with their activities as they worked towards the biggest day of the poker year.

One of the big events over the weekend was the Doyle’s Room party held at the Blush nightclub. UB.com’s Bryan Devonshire had an adventure prior to arriving at the Blush bash, tweeting, “Last night on my way to Doyle’s party I set my phone in a margarita. It doesn’t work anymore.” The Brunson family turned out to be great hosts for the party as Pamela Brunson chirped Sunday morning, “Got in @ 6am from Doyle’s room Blush party and after party @Surrender. I don’t remember WHY I used to enjoy doing that! I’m POOPED!” Even Doyle was stung by the party atmosphere when he recounted his night:  “I’m trying to recover from the Doyle’s Room party at Blush. I’m not going to drink anymore except for an occasional beer until New Years Eve!”

The Fourth of July celebrations saw many of the players hitting various spots around Sin City. “Happy Fourth of July,” Justin “BoostedJ” Smith tweeted on Sunday. “Steak dinner at aria then going to club bank at Bellagio. Should be awesome night…Vegas is packed for the weekend!” Allen Kessler seemingly made a tour of the city when he Tweeted his schedule for the day:  “3 parties tonite. First @fkassela bbq, then @twoplustwoforum forum party at aria, now at bluff party at sapphire.”

Some went for a more low-key Independence Day celebration. Tiffany Michelle included a Twitpic of her activities, adding, “What better way to spend the 4th than in the pool with your girlfriends?” Lacey Jones was reflective when she tweeted her thoughts to her followers, “If there is anything I love w my whole heart it’s our Troops. Thank you to all the men & women who have served our country proud. Happy 4th!” Finally, Kara Scott missed some of the action when she tweeted, “Watching fireworks in a cab. Can juuuuust about see through the gaps in the buildings as we drive past.”

For some over the Independence Day weekend, poker took center stage over the parties and fireworks. The “Ante Up For Africa” charity poker tournament at the WSOP had many on Twitter talking, including eventual champion Phil Gordon. “129,000 in prize money going to a worthy cause,” Phil tweeted after his win and his donation of the first place bounty. “That and a big hug from runner up Shannon Elizabeth made this a great day!” For her part, Shannon Elizabeth was pleased with her performance when she chirped, “So happy! I just got 2nd in Ante Up For Africa! I had lots of lucky hands today-& was so fun!” Annie Duke issued her heartfelt thanks to those who participated when she tweeted, “Great day for @Anteupforafrica. Raised nearly $300K. Thank you so much to everyone who played.”

In one of the more comical exchanges following Gordon’s win in the charity event, fellow Full Tilt Poker members Rafe Furst and Andy Bloch took turns razzing Gordon. After Furst offered his congratulations (“Congrats @PhilNoLimits in your first WSOP tournament win at Ante Up for Africa!”), Bloch jabbed at Gordon’s WSOP record by tweeting, “Does it count as a bracelet?” Furst stuck the knife in a bit deeper when he replied, “I think we should make him an honorary one.”

The WSOP Tournament of Champions wrapped up play on Sunday night and the Twitterscape was buzzing with activity. “Gave it my best in the TOC,” Duke tweeted upon finishing ninth. “Short stacked all day and got my money in as good as I could hope for. Thanks @WSOP for the freeroll.” Jennifer Harman was playful with her exit Tweet, saying, “I’m out 7th. The last hour I feel like I played like a goof ball. Next tourney Main Event.” Daniel Negreanu enjoyed his stay at the TOC final table, although he reported, “Just busted to Hachem. AA vs 55 flop came 652. Oh well, it was a fun tournament but in the end my cards ran out of gas.”

Once Huck Seed and Howard Lederer reached heads up play, Duke began to pay more attention to the play. Although she tried to stick with the action (“Still rooting @HowardHLederer on in TOC. No sleep till he wins!”), Duke eventually gave up, tweeting, “I’m giving up. I need to sleep. Hoping I wake up to find that @HowardHLederer won the TOC. If not Huck is a great back up! Go Bub and Huck!”

Lederer was quite prolific with his tweets as he reported the action. “Just got head up with Huck,” tweeted Howard. “I have 468 to his 342. Given his HU record, I feel like a small dog.” Howard did well for himself, forcing the action for almost two hours before busting out in second place. “Disappointed,” Lederer tweeted at the conclusion. “Huck played great and deserved to win. Thanks much to Harrah’s for the freeroll and the voters for opportunity.”

One of the things that was going on outside of the tables was players noticing the structure of this year’s Championship Event. Andy Bloch was on the case when he chirped, “Warning: when choosing main event starting day, day 1b plays on 2b and day 1c plays on 2a. WSOP has done an appalling job getting word out.” After reviewing the structure of play for the early part of the Main Event, Bloch noted, “Just looked at the main event structure sheet. Playing only 4 levels days 1-5 with a 90 minute dinner break after level 2? Seriously? To the people who decided to have dinner breaks at 4:20: what were you smoking?”

This launched further discussion from Allen Kessler and Pamela Brunson. “Wow I just found out day1a main event players can be in the event 10 days and still not cash,” Kessler tweeted. “Only playing 4 levels/day should be looked at.” Brunson thanked Bloch for his warning, tweeting, “Wow…..that’s stupid! Thanks for tweeting to let us know. I need to recheck my appointments!”

On the lighter side of poker in Twitter, it seems that Joe Reitman might need to start wearing a name tag around the Rio. “Guy on a rascal said ‘Jeff can u sign my hat?,” Reitman tweeted after once again being confused with Jeff Shulman. “Had to tell him ‘I’m not Jeff.’ He was disappointed. Could have lied. But he was on a rascal.” The always endearing Vicky Coren noted upon her arrival in Las Vegas, “Passing the blackjack area, I’d know I was in Vegas with my eyes shut. ‘Please translate for Mr. Wong: the cards must STAY ON THE TABLE.’” Finally, Eric “basebaldy” Baldwin reminisced about his Fourth of July memories:  “Next year I want lawn chairs, coolers, and fireworks in the front yard. Some of my best memories are running around trees with sparklers.”

Full Tilt Poker Holding Rush Week Starting July 12th

July 3rd, 2010 No Comments   Posted in pokerNewsDaily.com

From Monday, July 12th to Sunday, July 18th, Full Tilt Poker is holding Rush Week. Capitalizing on the popularity of its fast-paced Rush Poker, Full Tilt is dishing out up to $250 in cash per player along with entries into an exclusive $50,000 Rush Week Freeroll.

In honor of Rush Week, which totes “Seven Days of Speed” as its tagline, several guaranteed tournaments on Full Tilt Poker will offer a Rush Poker structure. This means that as soon as a player’s action in a hand has ended, he or she is whisked off to another table with a new set of opponents to begin a brand new hand. The lack of downtime means constant decision-making and the potential to see 300 hands per hour. Rush Poker ring games first appeared on Full Tilt back in January. In April, Rush Poker tournaments were rolled out.

There are several ways to collect cash as part of Rush Week. Players who earn at least 10 Full Tilt Points (FTPs) per day from Rush Poker games on any four days during the promotion will bank $5. If they can perform the same feat on all seven days of Rush Week, they’ll earn $10. Players who amass 100 FTPs per day on any four days during Rush Week will collect $25, while those who can generate 100 FTPs per day on all seven days will earn $50.

Finally, Full Tilt Poker members who accrue 1,000 FTPs per day on any four days during the week will receive $125. Those who can rack up 1,000 FTPs per day on all seven days will take home the grand prize of $250. Players can only take home one cash prize, meaning that the awards for racking up FTPs during Rush Week are not cumulative.

Rush Week officially starts at 00:00 ET on July 12th and ends at 23:59 ET on July 18th. Only FTPs earned in Rush Poker cash games and tournaments are eligible for reaping rewards and bonuses earned as part of Full Tilt’s Rush Week. Happy Hours, while lucrative, don’t count for this promotion.

Similar to other Full Tilt Poker promotions, players must opt into Rush Week in order to qualify. To do so, log into the Full Tilt client and click on the “Cashier” button. Then, click on “My Promotions” and select “Rush Week.” If you’re curious as to where you stand, head back to the “Rush Week” landing page.

Qualifying for the $50,000 Rush Week Freeroll is pretty simple. All you have to do is reach the final table of a Rush Poker tournament during the promotional period. Text found on Full Tilt Poker’s website highlights an important caveat to qualifying: “In Rush Poker Tournaments that do not play down to a final table, all players who win the top prize will be automatically entered into the $50,000 Rush Week Freeroll.”

The $50,000 freeroll is scheduled for Sunday, July 25th at 15:15 ET. Full Tilt has bumped up the number of Rush Poker tournaments on the docket during the week in order to allow plenty players to qualify for the freeroll. Players are automatically entered to the $50,000 freebie, eliminating the hassle of having to register manually.

Full Tilt happily accepts players from the United States and is the world’s second largest online poker site, trailing only PokerStars. Its fleet of sponsored pros includes 2009 World Series of Poker November Niner Phil Ivey, Howard Lederer, and Chris Ferguson. Rush Poker is patent pending in the United States, the European Union, Australia, and Canada. Visit Full Tilt Poker today.

June 30th – Daily Deal

June 30th, 2010 No Comments   Posted in pokerNewsDaily.com

Welcome back to the Daily Deal by Poker News Daily. Today, we’ll catch you up on the latest news and notes from the two thousand ten World Series of Poker, take a look at California possibly legalizing internet gambling, and go over brand new promotions from Full Tilt and PartyPoker.

Hello, I’m Sean Gibson and welcome to the Daily Deal by Poker News Daily.

To kick things off, we’ll go back to the Rio in Las Vegas once again to recap the action from the two thousand and ten World Series of Poker. Event number forty five was a fifteen hundred dollar no limit holdem tournament and was won by American Jesse Rockowitz for just over seven hundred and twenty thousand dollars. Event number forty-six was a five thousand dollar Omaha high low tournament which was won by Chris Bell who bested both Dan Shak, who finished second, and David “DevilFish” Ulliott who finished third. For his efforts, Bell rung in three hundred and twenty-seven thousand dollars.

Meanwhile, a non-bracelet event took place amid huge fanfare from the Rio in the WSOP Tournament of Champions. Players in this event had to either previously have won it or be voted in through a fan poll. There were five huge casualties on Day 1 of the event, starting with legend Doyle Brunson. Other players busting include two thousand nine world series of poker champion Joe Cada, Andrew Barton and Dan Harrington. The other casualty turned out to be defending champ and WPT host Mike Sexton, leaving seventeen players remaining. Mike “the mouth” matusow is your chip leader, being followed by Huck Seed, Johnny Chan and Scotty Nguyen.

Today, lawmakers in the California Senate Governmental Organization Committee will debate the merits of legalizing and regulating online poker. Senate Bill 1485, introduced by Inglewood Democrat Rod Wright, could help shrink major budget shortfalls in the west coast state. Among those not in favor of the proposed legislation is the Poker Players Alliance.

The PPA takes issue with the bill granting licenses to only three internet gambling “hubs.” In addition, the one million member strong organization disagrees with the bill’s criminalization of those who play on sites not granted licenses. In a letter sent to Wright in late June, the PPA cautioned,

“The measure as drafted would immediately criminalize online poker play well before any of the hubs are operational. It could easily be a year or more before online players could play legally.”

PPA California State Director Steve Miller is testifying at Tuesday’s hearing. As more develops in California, we’ll be reporting the latest as it breaks.

Starting this week, PartyPoker is bringing back its popular Card Rush Instant Win promotion, only this time, it’s super sized. Card Rush XL offers one-point-eight million prizes up for grabs, including cash, freeroll entries, and special leaderboard points. The promotion, which is sure to cause a massive traffic boost on PartyPoker, ends when every card has been given away or July thirty-first, whichever comes first. To claim a card, all you have to do is rack up fifteen Party Points.

Meanwhile, players in the United States can head to Full Tilt Poker, which is dishing out trips to the upcoming WPT Bellagio Cup in Las Vegas. Three direct qualifiers will be held on Full Tilt Poker, the first of which takes place today at twenty-one hundred Eastern Time. In addition, Step Seven sit and gos, which have a buy-in of twenty-one hundred dollars, will award WPT Bellagio Cup prize packages. The tournament has a $10,000 buy-in and begins on July 11th.

Thanks for joining me on the Daily Deal. Don’t forget to visit PokerNewsDaily.com and be sure to follow us at Twitter.com/PokerNewsDaily for the latest in poker news. This is Sean Gibson, wishing you deep runs in all your tournaments!

UB.com Celebrates Independence Day With Freedom Tournaments

June 30th, 2010 No Comments   Posted in pokerNewsDaily.com

With the celebration of Independence Day coming up this weekend in the United States, UB.com is getting in on the party by offering two tournaments that could earn players some green while celebrating the Red, White, and Blue.

The fireworks start on Sunday at Noon ET, when UB.com opens the doors with the first of two Freedom Tournaments. The first event will be a freeroll that guarantees 20 seats to UB.com’s weekly $200,000 Guaranteed, which will play out on Sunday at 4:00pm ET. The tournament, with its guaranteed prize pool of $200,000 and a buy-in of $200+$15, is one of the top Sunday tournaments in the industry.

For players who miss out on the start of the freeroll – or bust out of it – there is a second chance tournament available. A special satellite event will be held at 1:30pm ET that will also offer a minimum of 20 seats for the top finishers. This tournament features a minuscule buy-in of $4+$0.40. In total, UB.com will be offering up 40 seats as a way of celebrating Independence Day.

“What better way to celebrate the freedom we Americans have to play this incredible game than with a Fourth of July freeroll,” Team UB pro Phil Hellmuth commented. “I’m proud to be an American, I’m proud to be part of UB, and I’m proud to celebrate Independence Day with the entire poker community at the best poker site around.”

Also on tap this weekend at UB.com is the opportunity for players to earn double Ultimate Points as part of Double Points Sit and Go Weekend. From Midnight ET on July 3rd to 11:59pm ET on July 4th, players will earn twice as many Ultimate Points for their play on the tables.

For those who aren’t a part of the action on UB.com, but are a member of the CEREUS Network site Absolute Poker, the same opportunities are available. Absolute Poker players will be eligible to enter the special UB.com freeroll, the satellite event, and – if they are skillful enough to take one of the 40 seats – the $200,000 Guaranteed. They will also earn twice as many Absolute Points for play as part of Double Points Sit and Go Weekend.

The $200,000 Guaranteed is the marquee weekly event for UB.com and its players. In last week’s tournament, there was a slight overlay that provided a considerable amount of value for the players involved. A total of 906 competitors showed up for last Sunday’s tournament, with 90 players earning cash for their time on the felt. The top five finishers in the tournament all walked away with a five-figure cash. In the end, it was “DOCTORDOKTOR” outlasting “BKAPLAN78” to take away the first place payday of $44,920, with “BKAPLAN78” earning a second place haul of $26,900.

Instead of heading to the lake, a picnic, or a fireworks display on Sunday, it could be an excellent chance to take some cold hard cash with UB.com’s special Freedom Tournaments. Visit UB.com for full details.

WSOP Tournament of Champions Begins from Poker in Twitter

June 28th, 2010 No Comments   Posted in pokerNewsDaily.com

Gavin Smith‘s first World Series of Poker (WSOP) bracelet over the weekend nearly melted down the Twitterverse. After Smith made his breakthrough victory in the $2,500 Mixed Hold’em event on Saturday, congratulations flooded in for the popular Canadian. UB.com pro Joe Sebok was excited over Smith’s first WSOP bracelet win, Tweeting, “Congratulations @olegsmith. Love you friend. You worked hard for this and you deserve it. Happy to share this moment with you, bud.”

The accolades continued to come in for Smith throughout the day on Sunday. “Congrats on the bracelet @OleGSmith!,” Tweeted “Hollywood” Dave Stann. “Awesome to see one of the good guys come out on top – you rock, dude!” PokerStars pro Daniel Negreanu had an ulterior motive with Smith’s win, but was thrilled nonetheless: “Congrats @olegsmith you brought it home! That win helped me beat Matusow for 10k woot.”

The revived WSOP Tournament of Champions was also a hot topic over the weekend. “Good luck to the wonderful Mike Sexton in the TOC today, a great ambassador for the game and a champion!,” PartyPoker pro Kara Scott tweeted as the 27-player tournament began. John Juanda, one of the players voted in by fans, Tweeted his starting table to his followers: “Seed, Ivey, Harman, Cada, Seidel, Ferguson, me, Chan, Barton. Wish me luck, guys! I’ll need it!”

Apparently the poker gods weren’t listening to Juanda because, not even one hour later, he reported his demise: “Just like that, I’m out of TOC. Tried to get Harman to lay down 2nd set and it didn’t work!” Others did much better and will move on to Day 2 of the TOC, including Erik Seidel (“Day over TOC. I finished w 72k.”), Howard Lederer (“Finished day 1 of WSOP TOC with 25,800. Slow day, no cards, deep stacks. Tomorrow the action should pick up.”) and Barry Greenstein (“End of today’s session. I didn’t play too well toward the end. 22 left. Average is 37k. I have 57k.”)

A considerable amount of attention was paid to the $5,000 Pot Limit Omaha Hi/Lo event on Sunday night. Once the action in the event became heads-up, it featured two of the most respected players in the game, Dan Shak and Chris Bell. “Dan Shak and Chris Bell now heads-up for the bracelet,” Annie Duke chirped from tableside. “Freeroll on who wins. Both of them are deserving and great guys.”

Notable pros lined up to cheer on their horse. Noted tournament reporter B.J. Nemeth caught one particularly interesting exchange when he Tweeted, “Chris Bell to the TD: ‘This isn’t fair. Dan has Shannon Elizabeth rooting for him, and I’m stuck with Gavin Smith.’” After Bell was able to defeat Shak for the bracelet, Smith Tweeted his feelings: “Chris Bell, one of my closest friends just won his first bracelet, I think I am as happy now as I was last night!

For the best Tweets of the Week, we’ll start with Negreanu. While playing in the Mixed Game tournament at the WSOP, Negreanu posed the question, “Weird question was raised: what are the odds that at an 8 handed stud table, all 8 players are rolled up?” Leave it to the author of “The Mathematics of Poker” and double bracelet winner Bill Chen to know the answer, as Negreanu Tweeted, “Bill Chen just told me it’s 1 followed by about 20 zeros.”

Finally, the World Cup has drawn the attention of poker players. “Up early to sweat soccer,” Shannon Shorr Tweeted. “Need Germany to upset England as my only other team, Slovakia, is drawing dead against Holland tomorrow.” Scott Huff commented on the shoddy officiating when he chirped, “If I was from Mexico I’d be livid right now. As it is, I’m curious why FIFA even bothers having a rule book.” Perhaps it wasn’t the World Cup, but Full Tilt‘s Ali Nejad stepped up to play soccer rather than watch it: “Played rooftop soccer all day @nikemontalban. Or based on the way my body feels… rooftop soccer played me.”

Erik Seidel leads 22 players in WSOP Tournament of Champions

June 28th, 2010 No Comments   Posted in BluffEurope.com
The much-anticipated $1m invitational freeroll that is the World Series of Poker Tournament of Champions kicked off yesterday with 27 players taking to the felt. Most of the poker names that you expect were there – Ivey, Barry Greenstein, Johnny Chan, Scotty Nguyen, Allen Cunningham, Daniel Negreanu... the list goes on.

Stars Headline 2010 TOC

June 27th, 2010 No Comments   Posted in PokerListings.com

20 of the 27 players seated for the start of the TOC Sunday were voted in by fans on WSOP.com, and this year's TOC is the equivalent of an All-Star game from any major sport.

A ballot of 50 names was released by the WSOP on March 15, and the public had until June 15 to vote.

The top 20 players receiving the highest vote total earned a TOC, along with seven other qualifiers.

The result is an field that includes names like Phil Hellmuth, Mike "The Mouth" Matusow, Sammy Farha and Scotty Nguyen, seated with Barry Greenstein, Allen Cunningham, Mike Sexton and Barry Shulman.

All of those big names are sitting around just one table at the TOC.

"All in all I think it's great for the game, and I think all poker players should appreciate the fact that somebody's putting up a million dollars for a freeroll, for players to put that back in the poker community," Sexton told PL.com on a break.

"Obviously it's a phenomenal field. I predicted the final table will be the greatest final table in the history of poker. I think it'll be that strong."

The TOC is back for the first time since 2006, and the formula was overhauled for 2010, allowing the public to vote in the first-ever event of it's kind.

Daniel Negreanu
Daniel Negreanu is seated right next to Annie Duke at the ESPN feature table.

"Any time you have a voting process, people are going to talk about it," Sexton said.

"That's the way it is. It's like any major sport. All-Star baseball game, basketball, it doesn't matter. If the fans vote on it, they vote for people that they recognize, that are popular."

The event is definitely creating a buzz in the Amazon Room, with all three feature tables offering a spectacular lineup.

Top vote-getter Phil Ivey is in the field, along with Daniel Negreanu, Annie Duke, Chris "Jesus" Ferguson and Erik Seidel.

"It's a tough field," said Sammy Farha with a grin.

"I like that though, it's better for me. They're all good players. There's no strange move or something like that. I'd rather be in a field like this than against different faces that I haven't seen before."

The TOC will play four levels Sunday and wrap up early in the afternoon, allowing multi-tabling pros to fulfill other bracelet-event commitments later in the day.

Action will resume in the TOC at 12:00 p.m. on Monday with the goal of playing down to a final table of nine. The final table will play out on July 4.

Farha told PL.com that he's done playing bracelet events for the summer, with the $10k Omaha Hi-Lo bracelet already in the bag for the 2010 WSOP.

Nonetheless, Farha says the TOC title is meaningful to the pros.

"You know what you hear, we're having fun, we're socializing," Farha said.

"That means nothing. The play, it's very competitive. We're all going to try to beat each other."

The 2010 WSOP continues through July 17. For comprehensive coverage live from Las Vegas tune in to PokerListings' Live Updates and News.

PartyPoker Launches Card Rush XL Promotion

Starting on Monday, June 28th, PartyPoker is dishing out 1.8 million cards as part of its brand new Card Rush XL promotion. The opportunity to win is open until July 31st or when the nearly two million cards are given away, whichever comes first.

Amass 15 Party Points on the virtual felts of one of the world’s most populated online poker sites to claim a card. Text found on PartyPoker’s website details what makes this version of the Card Rush promotion truly worthy of the title XL: “Unlike before, every single card contains a prize, from cash to points to freeroll entries and now brand new Card Rush XL leaderboard points, which allow you to compete in our great Card Rush XL Race.” In order to get every player started off on the right foot, PartyPoker is awarding the first card at a discounted rate of five points.

Once you’ve received a card, log into your PartyPoker account and scratch it off to see what you’ve won. What can you take home, you ask? How about a $5,000 cash prize? If the top cash jackpot eludes you, the poker gods may grant you $500, $50, $5, $3, $2, or $1 as a consolation prize. Freeroll entries are also available and range from a $2,000 freebie to a $50,000 prize pool event. Also up for grabs are Party Points, which are awarded in increments of 25,000, 5,000, 1,000, 500, 200, 100, 25, and 10. Finally, Card Rush XL Leaderboard points will be given away.

There are seven freerolls that will run as part of the Card Rush XL promotion according to the following schedule, so mark your calendars accordingly if your card reveals an entry:

$2,000 Card Rush XL Freeroll – 13:30 ET on August 5th
$3,000 Card Rush XL Freeroll – 13:30 ET on August 6th
$5,000 Card Rush XL Freeroll – 13:30 ET on August 7th
$10,000 Card Rush XL Freeroll – 13:30 ET on August 7th
$15,000 Card Rush XL Freeroll – 13:30 ET on August 6th
$25,000 Card Rush XL Freeroll – 13:30 ET on August 5th
$50,000 Card Rush XL Freeroll – 13:30 ET on August 8th

The Card Rush XL Race dishes out prizes to the top 200 finishers along with every 20th spot from 220th to 2,000th. The top three players will have their pick of $10,000 luxury travel packages, which include trips to the Ryder Cup at Celtic Manor in Wales, the Formula 1 Gran Premio Santander in Italy, and Major League Baseball’s World Series in the United States. In the event that players don’t want to experience a once-in-a-lifetime luxury package, they can trade it in for $7,500 in cash. The fourth through 30th players in the Card Rush XL Race will bank a four-figure payday and the minimum payout is $50.

Now, it’s time for the fine print. Players are capped at 50 cards per day, or 750 points per day. In addition, you have until 24 hours after the Card Rush XL’s completion to scratch off your cards. Moreover, “In the eventuality where a player would receive several freeroll entries for a same tournament, the additional entries will not be refunded.”

PartyPoker is also exploiting its relationship with the World Poker Tour (WPT) by offering entries to WPT London and the Legends of Poker, both of which take place in August. The London event is a brand new stop on the 2010-2011 WPT schedule, while the Legends of Poker has been a mainstay of the tournament series ever since 2002.

June 25th – Daily Deal

June 25th, 2010 No Comments   Posted in pokerNewsDaily.com

Today’s Topics: 2010 WSOP Update, Survivor and the Women in Poker Hall of Fame Nominees.

Happy Friday! On today’s edition of the Daily Deal by Poker News Daily, we’ll take a look back at a busy day in the two thousand ten World Series of Poker. Also, we’ll figure out whether a poker player may be on the newest cycle of Survivor and review the Women in Poker Hall of Fame nominees. It’s all straight ahead on the Daily Deal!

Well there was almost huge news from the Rio as another top pro made a final table. This time it was Phil Hellmuth looking for bracelet number twelve as he made the final table of Event number forty one, which was the fifteen hundred dollar omaha eight or better tournament. As you might know, all eleven of Hellmuth’s bracelets are in No Limit Hold’em, but he wasn’t able to go the distance and finished a very impressive seventh place. The winner of this one turned out to be Steve Jelinek who became the fifth person from the UK to win a bracelet in the 2010 WSOP.

According to a rumor, poker players will make their return to the popular CBS reality series Survivor next season. Survivor: Nicaragua, which is in the midst of filming, will apparently feature a high-stakes poker player. Who that is has yet to be determined. A mystery poster on TwoPlusTwo who goes by the name “HeyIzDro” first reported the news, saying that producers had called him to gauge his interest. He initially turned down the offer in order to play in the World Series of Poker, but later notified readers that he was headed to Nicaragua to film.

Posters broke down players they’d like to see on the show, including Tom Dwan,Jamie Gold, and Huck Seed. Those who have been relatively absent from the WSOP and are possibilities to appear are Johnny Chan, Peter Eastgate, Prahlad Friedman, Patrik Antonius, and Clonie Gowen. Survivor: Nicaragua will air later this year on CBS.

Finally, seven ladies have received nominations to be enshrined in the Women in Poker Hall of Fame.

Poker News Daily Guest Columnist Annie Duke, Jennifer Harman, Kathy Liebert, J.J. Liu, Phyllis Caro, Nani Dollison, and Betty Carey.

The general public can visit Women In Poker Hall of Fame dot com before July fifteenth to vote. Two players will be inducted into the Hall in August.
Finally, don’t forget to sign up for UB.com through Poker News Daily before July thirtieth, deposit, and rack up one Status Point. When you do, you’ll be automatically entered into a freeroll on August fifteenth. The winner of the freeroll heads to sunny, warm Las Vegas in November to watch the final table of the Main Event play out. Plus, everyone who makes the freeroll’s final table gets seats to the UB.com two hundred thousand dollar guaranteed Sunday Major.

Two more prize packages for the Main Event final table will be given out in points races held in June and July. Whoever amasses the most number of Status Points each month will head to Sin City to soak up the November Nine and witness poker history. This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to see one player take down what is expected to be a top prize of between eight and nine million dollars.

I’m Sean Gibson. Have a great weekend and I’ll see you again on Monday.

June 23rd – Daily Deal

June 23rd, 2010 No Comments   Posted in pokerNewsDaily.com

It’s Wednesday here on the Daily Deal! We have some great stories from the world of poker, including the latest action from the two-thousand ten World Series of Poker. Plus, we’ll check out the latest political efforts from the Poker Players Alliance and tell you how you can win your way to watch the November Nine in sunny Las Vegas for free.

Hello, I’m Sean Gibson and welcome to the Daily Deal by Poker News Daily.

Another bracelet was awarded yesterday, this time in event number thirty eight, the ten thousand dollar pot limit hold’em championship. Hungarian player Valdemar Kwaysser became the second player from his country to win a bracelet this year and took in a prize of just over six hundred and seventeen thousand dollars. Notable finishes in this event include Vitaly Lunkin in twenty third and Mike “The Mouth” Matusow in twenty sixth place. Many have been saying that this year at the WSOP is the year of the Brit or even the year of the European players, but don’t be fooled, when we look at the stats there’s no question about American domination. As you can see Americans have twenty five bracelets, six times more than players from the UK and in terms of money won, have almost five times as much as the nearest nation which is Canada.

Earlier this week, two-thousand four World Series of Poker Main Event champ Greg Raymer authored an e-mail to members of the Poker Players Alliance. Raymer asked players to visit AmericaSpeakingOut.com and support the legalization and regulation of online poker. The Republican-oriented website, according to Raymer’s e-mail, focuses “on how to continue to make this great nation prosper. I believe we shouldn’t pass up this unique opportunity to share our message of personal freedom and liberty with these members of Congress.”

Raymer’s call to action worked, as the issue had received over 700 votes by mid-Tuesday. Poker players will recall that banks and other financial institutions were forced to comply with the regulations of the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act, or UIGEA, on June first. A mark-up hearing on legislation favorable to internet gambling is expected next month in the House Financial Services Committee. In the meantime, do your part to help legalize this great game in the United States by visiting ThePPA.org today.

Finally, Poker News Daily wants to send you – YES, YOU – to the final table of the two-thousand ten World Series of Poker Main Event in November. All you have to do is sign up for UB.com through PND between June first and July thirtieth, deposit, and generate one UB Point. When you do, you’ll automatically be entered into a freeroll on August fifteenth on UB.com. The winner will head to Las Vegas in style to watch the Main Event wrap up. The other members of the final table in the August freeroll will earn a spot in the site’s two-hundred thousand dollar Guaranteed, a two hundred fifteen dollar value. So instead of waiting to watch who wins the Main Event on ESPN from your couch, you can watch it live and in person with VIP treatment. There’s an article about the UB.com November Nine promo up on the front page of PND right now. We’ll see you in November!

That does it for today’s episode of the Daily Deal, be sure to come back all day long for the latest in poker news and for exclusive interviews with the biggest names in the industry. This is Sean Gibson, and I’ll see you next time right here on the Daily Deal.

Dakota Man Wins Bodog Champion Camp

June 23rd, 2010 No Comments   Posted in PokerListings.com

The North Dakotan won the package earlier this month after he took part in a Bodog freeroll, which was exclusive to PokerListings.com players.

"Winning the WSOP package was awesome although it was a bit of a surprise," said Blair.

Blair originally finished second in the freeroll but thanks to the initial winner being disqualified due to age restrictions he was awarded the package.

Blair is now headed to the 2010 WSOP where he will not only play in the $10,000 Main Event but also experience Las Vegas like a high roller with extras like expensive dinners, shopping sprees and helicopter tours.

A six-year poker veteran, Blair has been to Vegas several times but this will be the first time he's going to experience the biggest tournament in the world.

"I've won many mid-stakes tournaments online but nothing really to brag about," said Blair.

A total of 6,494 players entered the Main Event last year creating a prize pool of $61 million and Blair will get a shot at taking home a life-changing amount of money this year.

"If I won the Main Event I'd buy a nice house in my home town and take a nice long vacation."

Although the 2010 Champion Camp freerolls are now complete, PokerListings is offering extensive coverage of this year's WSOP with live updates, news and videos.

Be sure to check our coverage as we follow Blair, and thousands of other players, as they attempt to win it all and become a poker world champion.
