PokerStars Announces Latin American Poker Tour Season IV
Plans for a fourth season of the Latin American Poker Tour (LAPT) are in action, as PokerStars announced the initial details on Thursday. LAPT Season IV, set to begin in February, has five events on the schedule so far, including tournaments in Brazil, Peru, and Argentina along with two National Championships in Chile and Colombia.
The first stop of Season IV will be in Sao Paulo, the largest city in the southern hemisphere at an estimated 11 million residents. The LAPT Sao Paulo Poker Festival will feature an R$5,000 buy-in (approximately $3,000 USD) Main Event as well as several side events. The series will be played at the World Trade Center, the city’s biggest and most luxurious convention space.
“During Season 4 of the LAPT, we will introduce new venues, such as Sao Paulo and Bogota, create two new National Poker Championship events in Chile and Colombia, and start searching for the best player in the region through our new Player of the Year awards,” said LAPT President David Carrion. “These changes have been made as a result of extensive feedback during Season 3 and we are proud to be making many player-friendly improvements that will take the LAPT to new heights, with larger fields and richer prize pools.”
The new LAPT Player of the Year awards will recognize excellent performances throughout the season. The awards, much like the PokerStars European Poker Tour (EPT) awards, will be handed out at the end of the season based on results in not only Main Events, but also most of the side events. Awards will be presented in several categories; the EPT gives trophies yearly to the top overall player, as well as the top Omaha player, Mixed Games player, heads-up player, and qualifier. There is also an award given to the country that performs the best during the season.
“I am looking forward to the new season; bigger events with more players and bigger prize pools are what all players look for,” said Team PokerStars pro Nacho Barbero, who won back-to-back LAPT events in Season 3. “I am sure that next season will be a success like the past one and I am looking forward to competing for the Player of the Year award.”
Players from Brazil, South America, and around the world will have many opportunities to participate in the upcoming season of the LAPT, either buying in directly or qualifying via live and online satellites. The easiest way to play in the new LAPT events is by winning a seat on PokerStars through freerolls, where winners will be awarded an LAPT prize package that includes a Main Event buy-in, hotel, and money for expenses. LAPT Sao Paulo Main Event satellites will begin running on PokerStars on January 5th; don’t miss your chance to play at the inaugural event.
“Through the Secretary of Sports and on behalf of the Prefeitura do Sao Paulo, we would like to confirm our commitment to putting all of our efforts to the success of the Latin American Poker Tour to take place in Sao Paulo in the upcoming year,” said Walter Feldman, Secretary of Sports, Leisure, and Recreation in Sao Paulo. “We understand that a sporting event such as this will contribute in a significant way to the promotion of the City of Sao Paulo as a big event organizer and will have a positive impact on the touristic activity of the city.”
Here’s a look at the tentative PokerStars LAPT Season IV Schedule:
February 16-20: Sao Paulo, Brazil (R$5,000 buy-in)
March 17-20: Vina Del Mar, Chile ($1,100 buy-in)
April 12-17: Lima, Peru ($2,500 buy-in)
June 1-5: Rosario, Argentina ($2,500 buy-in)
August 3-7: Bogota, Colombia ($1,100 buy-in)
LAPT Grand Final date is TBD

Traveling the Tournament Circuit with Bernard Lee
Ever wonder what it’s like to travel the live tournament circuit? Poker pro and ESPN’s Bernard Lee gives us this exclusive insight into the world of the live tournament scene as he travels from a WSOP Circuit Event (in which he finished in 3rd place) and just hours later travels to Foxwoods Casino to play in the World Poker Tour $10,000 event.
“Well, it’s been a crazy but great day. I just took third in the WSOP circuit $10k regional championship here in Hammond, Indiana… still the goal coming out here was to try to get the seat into the freeroll $1 million invitational in May and mission accomplished… we’ll see what happens there. But now the race is on to get back to Foxwoods to play in the ten thousand dollar WPT Main Event there.”
The video starts with Lee recapping what happened in Hammond at the WSOP $10k circuit event and explaining he will only get a few hours sleep until he has to get to Chicago to catch a plane, without knowing how he’s going to get to the airport to Foxwoods.
“We have some work to do to get on a plane tomorrow morning. As you can see it is 12:24 am on Central time. I got to get on the computer, figure out my fight, figure out how I am going to get from the airport over there [Foxwoods].”
The next scene shows Lee waking up at 3:45am which is barely enough time for him to run from the hotel to catch his plane. From there we see his whirlwind adventure take him to the airport where he checks in from the plane prior to take-off. From there he catches a ride from the airport to Foxwoods, and finally, checks in just moments before playing in the $10k event which is slated to start just minutes after his arrival.
Bernard Lee is a professional poker player who has two deep runs in the World Series of Poker Main Event to his name. He is also a columnist here at Poker News Daily and at ESPN.com and can be seen on the ESPN web show “The Inside Deal”.
Isaac Haxton to Face Isildur1 in First PokerStars SuperStar Showdown
Last week, PokerStars announced that the mysterious high-stakes phenom Isildur1 had signed on to become the latest member of Team PokerStars Pro. At the same time, a new promotion, the SuperStar Showdown, was launched, allowing all comers to take on Isildur1 in a nosebleed stakes heads-up match. On Tuesday, Isildur1′s first opponent was revealed.
On Sunday, December 19th at 6:00pm ET, Isaac “philivey2694″ Haxton will put $150,000 on the line, as he takes on Isildur1 at four tables of $50/$100 No Limit Hold’em. The young Haxton is well known throughout the poker community and, in addition to his cash game success, has put together a nice record on the live tournament circuit in just a few short years.
He burst onto the scene in early 2007 with a runner-up finish in the World Poker Tour‘s (WPT) PokerStars Caribbean Adventure, cashing for $861,789. Then, he came through in big way again, finishing second in the $40,000 No Limit Hold’em event at the 2009 World Series of Poker (WSOP), banking over $1.1 million. All told, he has 13 WSOP cashes and three WPT cashes, which have contributed significantly to his almost $3 million in live tournament winnings.
Isildur1 has become a railbird’s dream since he jumped into high-stakes online games just over a year ago. He has been involved in the 10 largest pots in online poker history and was the first player ever to lose a million dollar pot. This year, he has seen his online bankroll top out at $5.3 million.
The PokerStars SuperStar Showdown is more or less a mini version of Tom “durrrr” Dwan’s Million Dollar Challenge. Matches between Isildur1 and his challenger will be played across four tables simultaneously at minimum stakes of $50/$100. No Limit Hold’em and Pot Limit Omaha will be the permitted games.
The matches will last either 2,500 total hands or until one of the players goes bust, whichever happens first. The winner is simply the player who ends up with the most money. Anyone who is willing to pony up 1,500 big blinds can issue a challenge to Isildur1 by e-mailing PokerStars.
PokerStars is also running a series of online qualifying tournaments, giving the winners the opportunity to take on Isildur1 heads-up at one-tenth of the minimum stakes of the standard SuperStar Showdown, or $5/$10. Round 1 qualifiers include a daily $10 + $1 tournament with a 512-player cap and 4,096-runner capacity freerolls held each Saturday. The winner of each Round 1 tournament advances to the Final (the $11 tournament also distributes cash prizes).
The Finals will be held on February 13th and April 10th, with the two winners receiving the seat across the virtual table from Isildur1. In the lower stakes Showdowns, if either Isildur1 or his challenger stacks his opponent, he will receive an additional $10,000 from PokerStars.
Anyone can watch the SuperStar Showdown between Isildur1 and Haxton on Sunday night. The tables can be found under the “Hold’em” tab, then “No Limit/Pot Limit.” Both money and pride are on the line as the first in hopefully a long series of challengers steps up to the plate against the unnamed high-stakes star.

PPA Reacts to Reid Bill
John Pappas, the Executive Director of the advocacy group the Poker Players Alliance (PPA), released a statement regarding Sen. Harry Reid's proposed bill to license and regulate online poker.
"Lawmakers are acknowledging what PPA has been saying all along – that Americans want to play the great game of poker in any venue they choose and they deserve to be afforded the basic consumer protections that regulation can provide," said Pappas.
"While no bill will give players 100 percent of what we want and deserve, I do believe the legislation will be a victory for the poker playing community over the long-term.
"With the support of millions of Americans, and a growing bipartisan contingent of lawmakers, we are optimistic that Congress can get this done before the end of the year. We urge lawmakers to take action now and not let this important opportunity be missed."

Poker News Daily Weekly Update
Hello and welcome to the Poker News Daily Weekly Update, I’m your host Sean Gibson and I’ll be bringing you this week’s top headlines in the world of poker. Let’s get right to it!
Players on UB.com and Absolute Poker will be able to make it a lot more difficult for their accounts to be compromised through the use of security tokens. The security measure was introduced this week and can be purchased in the UB Points Store.
If you’ve never heard of a security token, it’s a small device that generates a numeric code. When you log into your UB.com or Absolute Poker account, you’ll need your user name and password along with the code generated by the security token. If you don’t have all three pieces of information, you won’t be able to sign in. The code randomly generates and will be different from login to login.
If your user name and password are compromised, a would-be hacker won’t be able to log into UB.com or Absolute Poker without the code generated by the security token. Visit UB.com or Absolute Poker for more information about it and how to purchase one.
If you are a well-known poker player who has something valuable to sell, it looks like this is the right time to do so. Peter Eastgate put up a World Series of Poker bracelet, as did Eskimo Clark. Now, Team PokerStars pro Vanessa Rousso is offering up her yellow two thousand seven Lamborghini on eBay.
Rousso purchased the sports car last year as a treat for herself with her poker winnings. In a video interview with CardPlayer, Rousso said that she had been planning the purchase since she was teenager. Even though she could afford to pay the sticker price for the vehicle, she bought it used to benefit from the depreciation in value in its first year.
This model originally retailed for one-hundred eighty thousand dollars, but you can head to eBay to buy it now for just one-hundred twenty-six thousand bucks.
This month, PartyPoker is holding the Five Star Poker Challenge, offering thirty-one freerolls worth five thousand dollars each plus other high-stakes cash prizes. All you have to do to take full advantage of the Five Star Poker Challenge is rack up five Party Points in a single day. Then, PartyPoker will grant you entry into a five thousand dollar freeroll the next day.
If you qualify for five of the aforementioned freerolls, you’ll score entry into a fifty thousand dollar freeroll that will be held on January Second. You’ll be ringing in the new year in style as you vie for a five-figure prize pool, all for playing on one of the world’s largest online poker sites.
After a nearly two-month break, the Durrrr Challenge between Tom “durrrr” Dwan and Dan “JungleMan12” Cates returned last week. Two sessions were held, the first of which totaled thirteen hundred hands and saw Cates win thirty-five thousand dollars. Then, an eighty-minute session saw another seven-hundred hands played with Dwan cutting into Cates’ lead by forty-seven thousand bucks. Cates now leads by six-hundred forty-five thousand dollars overall after nearly ten thousand hands. Fifty thousand hands are required for completion of the Durrrr Challenge.
Cates had been at the Trump Taj Mahal in Atlantic City playing a tournament prior to the resumption of the Challenge. Meanwhile, Dwan was last seen playing in nosebleed cash games in Macau along with players like Phil Ivey and Chau Giang.
Rush Poker Mobile has been pulled from the Android Market. Originally, the program was unavailable “due to maintenance,” but Poker News Daily has learned that offering real money gambling could be to blame.
On the Android Market’s website, language against real money gambling games is given …
“Apps with gambling themes or that include simulated gambling should be rated ‘Teen’ or above. Real gambling is not allowed in Android Market.”
Whether the app will be reintroduced to the Market in play money form remains to be seen.
Rush Poker Mobile’s departure from the Android Market doesn’t mean that players can’t use it. Instead, the application is still available from Full Tilt Poker’s website. A web-based version is available, as is a QR code that can be scanned. You’ll need Flash Version Ten Point One or higher on your phone in order to use Rush Poker Mobile.
The World Series of Poker Circuit has added two new stops to the ongoing season. From February Seventeenth to March First, the WSOP Circuit will invade the Palm Beach Kennel Club Poker Room in Florida. The state, which recently saw a vast expansion of poker, is also hosting a World Poker Tour stop next year and is quickly becoming a hotbed of poker.
Also hosting a new tour stop is Harrah’s Chester, located on the Delaware River in Pennsylvania. The state has seen the recent expansion of table games and will now attract a flood of poker players between April Twenty-Eighth and May Ninth. The Chester poker room features twenty-five tables and Harrah’s officials will also turn its convention center into a fifty-table poker room for the full slate of Circuit events.
Finally, Peter Eastgate’s two thousand eight World Series of Poker Main Event bracelet, which had been up for auction on eBay, sold for one hundred forty-seven thousand dollars. Overall, it saw a stunning one hundred sixteen bids. Eastgate put the bracelet up for auction to benefit UNICEF. The identity of the buyer is not yet known… and if it’s you, please shoot us an e-mail at support@pokernewsdaily.com…
Well, that does it for this week’s PND Weekly Recap and we invite you to visit our site every single day for the latest news in the world of poker. Anyone who earns at least 10 Full Tilt Points (FTPs) per day from Rush Poker games on any four days during the promotion will collect $5. If they can achieve the same feat on all seven days of Rush Week, they’ll earn $10. Players who build up 100 FTPs per day on any four days during Rush Week will collect $25, while those who can generate 100 FTPs per day on all seven days will earn $50.
For high-volume Rush Poker players, $125 will be handed out to those who accumulate 1,000 FTPs per day on any four days during the week. Those who can rack up 1,000 FTPs per day on all seven days will earn the grand prize of $250. Should a player achieve more than one of these reward levels, they will receive their highest possible cash amount only, as the rewards are not cumulative.
FTPs are earned at any real money raked game. For each dollar raked from the pot in a real money ring game, 10 FTPs are awarded to the table and then split equally among all players dealt into the hand.
In order to take part in the promotion, players need to opt into Rush Week. This can be done simply by logging into the Full Tilt client and clicking on the “Cashier” button. Then, click on “My Promotions” and select “Rush Week.”
For the tournament grinders out there, an exclusive $50,000 Rush Week Freeroll will be available for those who reach the final table of a Rush Poker tournament or sit and go during Rush Week. Full Tilt poker has dozens of Rush Poker tournaments every day, giving players many opportunities for even more free cash. The $50,000 Rush Week Freeroll is on Sunday, December 12th at 3:15 p.m. ET.
In addition, all Rush Poker tournaments with a guarantee will have it doubled during Rush Week. Saturday’s $80,000 Guarantee and the Sunday Brawl will also be converted into Rush Poker tournaments.
For those who haven’t played Rush Poker before, here’s a quick breakdown of the structure: Whether you’re playing a Rush Poker ring game, sit and go, or tournament, you’ll join a large player pool and face a different table of opponents every hand. When you fold your hand, you’ll be “rushed” to a new table for the next hand immediately. Rush Poker keeps you in the action at all times and requires constant decision-making.
The fast play allows players to see more than 300 hands per hour per table. Rush Poker ring games first appeared on Full Tilt back in January and Rush Poker tournaments were introduced in April.

PartyPoker Introduces Five Star Poker Challenge
In December, PartyPoker will unveil the Five Star Poker Challenge, offering 31 freerolls worth $5,000 each plus other high-stakes cash prizes. PartyPoker offers some of the industry’s most unique promotions every month.
All you have to do to take full advantage of the Five Star Poker Challenge is rack up five Party Points in a single day. That’s it; that’s really all you have to do. When you amass five points, PartyPoker will grant you entry into a $5,000 freeroll the next day. There are 31 freerolls that will be held in total, meaning that the site is putting up over $150,000 for this part of the Five Star Poker Challenge promotion.
Now, if you qualify for five of the aforementioned $5,000 freerolls, you’ll score entry into a $50,000 freeroll that will be held on January 2nd. You’ll be ringing in the new year in style as you vie for a five-figure prize pool, all for playing on one of the world’s largest online poker sites.
In addition, repeat winners of the $5,000 freerolls will be in for a special treat. Win two daily $5,000 freerolls and you’ll take home a $5,000 cash prize. If you manage to win three daily freerolls, then your prize will be increased to $50,000. Finally, any PartyPoker player who manages to take down five daily $5,000 freerolls will win a colossal $500,000 cash prize.
Your $5,000 freeroll victories don’t have to be consecutive; rather, they can happen at any point during the promotion. Finally, PartyPoker is offering up one $5,000, $50,000, and $500,000 bonus, so start playing early to claim your prize, as jackpots will be paid out on a first come, first served basis.
Text found on PartyPoker’s website explains how bonuses can be claimed: “To make a claim, players must send an email to info@partypoker.com and confirm their account name. PartyPoker will respond to all claims within 48 hours in order to verify all claims and ensure no fraudulent play has taken place.” PartyPoker expects to pay out bonuses within 48 hours.
The $5,000 tournaments will kick off at 15:00 ET each day during the Five Star Poker Challenge. According to PartyPoker’s terms, a “day” runs from 00:00 ET to 23:59 ET, so make sure to pick up five Party Points during that time span to qualify.
Also in December, PartyPoker is holding the VIP Gift Accumulator for its VIP members. All players need to do is earn Party Points. Then, at certain thresholds, they’ll receive rewards for their play, ranging from a $50 cash prize to a $5,000 World Poker Tour (WPT) buy-in. Other prizes include $100 in cash, an iPod Touch, $700 in cash, and a 16 GB iPad, which will likely be one of the hottest gift items of the holiday season. All prizes are cumulative, which could make for a pretty full stocking come Christmas morning.
The VIP Gift Accumulator also includes a prize draw that will shell out $10,000. The top payout in the prize draw is $5,000, with cash sums of $3,000 and $2,000 also available. The VIP Gift Accumulator promotion runs from December 1st to 14th, with the prize draw occurring on December 17th. Players must opt into the VIP Gift Accumulator promotion in order to participate.
The WPT buy-in is good for any event before March 31st. Players who would rather not head to a live poker tournament can opt for a cash alternative of $3,500. In order to check out how many VIP Gift Accumulator points you’ve earned, head to your PartyPoker account after you’ve opted in.
