Little seeks POY repeat at WPT Foxwoods
Little sits tied for third on the World Poker Tour's Player of the Year leaderboard, his 1,000 POY points just behind John Phan (1,400) and Kathy Liebert (1,300) with only two events left on the schedule.
Players earn points for finishing in the top seven at WPT events, with seventh taking 200 points and first a cool 1,000.
"I'm well aware of [the standings] and getting a fourth-place or higher [finish] will put me in the lead," Little told PokerListings.com. "Hopefully I can make it happen. Winning Player of the Year back to back would be huge."
Little's 1,000 points, ironically, came with his win at Foxwoods' World Poker Finals this past November, a victory that earned the Pensacola, Fla. native a cash reward of $1,120,310.
It was another strong showing for Little, who with two WPT titles and nearly $4 million in career earnings, has cemented his reputation as one of the hottest young talents on the Tour.
"I'm very, very excited about this one," Little said in an interview with PokerListings following the win. "I wasn't really excited about the Mirage one [his first WPT victory], for some reason."
"I mean, I was excited, but this one confirms that I can actually do it again and it's not just a huge luckfest."
Full Tilt's Erik Seidel is actually the Foxwoods Poker Classic returning champ, but it's Little who returns to Connecticut this week with a chance to make history. And he likes his spot.
"Foxwoods is a great place to play poker," Little said. "They have a giant poker room and they always take care of their players."
And the opposition?
"In general, I think the players are worse than the players in Vegas," he said, before suggesting the same is true for every other casino in the world.
"I do think the players [at Foxwoods] are a little more stubborn than normal."
The main event at Foxwoods begins Friday, with the first and only Day 1 getting under way at noon Eastern Time.
Action will continue over the weekend and into next week, with the final table playing out on Wednesday, April 8.
For his part, Little remains realistic about his shot at double POY honors.
"I'm probably one in 50 to take the top four in Foxwoods and one in 100 to take the top five at Bellagio, so I'm probably around 3% to repeat," he said.

Pilgrim lands 2009 WSOP Main Event seat
But the Rincon ring is just the latest success story for the Guyana-born Pilgrim.
He has quickly emerged as the hottest player on the WSOP Circuit this season after cashing five times at WSOPC Atlantic City this past December and booking an $83,955 win at a prelim there in early March.
"Now look out," Pilgrim said. "I'm shooting for the gold bracelet."
Pilgrim, who has only been playing live tournaments for a little more than a year, beat well-known Las Vegas-based pro Esther "E-Tay" Taylor heads-up to book the win in California, stopping her bid to become the first female WSOP Circuit main event winner in history.
Jennifer Harman finished second in the 2005 WSOPC event at the Rio in Las Vegas, and Kathy Liebert took third at Rincon in 2007.
WSOP Media Director Nolan Dalla claims Pilgrim is a burgeoning poker star, blessed with "personality, likability, and great poker talent," and has great expectations for him at the WSOP this summer.
"To know me is to love me," Pilgrim joked.
The WSOP Circuit will hit Caesars Palace in Las Vegas from April 11-29 and Harrah's New Orleans from May 8-20 before the 2009 WSOP starts at the Rio May 27.

Bodog Unveils 2009 WSOP Prop Bets
If you've ever wanted to rail your favorite poker stars without having to be at the 2009 World Series of Poker (WSOP) in Las Vegas, head to Bodog. The online poker site and sports book recently opened up betting on the WSOP. The festivities at the Rio begin on May 27th.
Among the wagers available on Bodog is what poker pro will win the most money during the 2009 WSOP. The leader in the clubhouse is 11-time bracelet holder Phil Hellmuth, who is currently going off at 5:2. Other players that are available to bet on include Doyle Brunson (7:2), David Sklansky (12:1), Barry Greenstein (5:1), Mike Caro (12:1), Phil Gordon (10:1), T.J. Cloutier (6:1), and Team PokerStars Pro member Daniel Negreanu, who is fetching 3:1 odds.
The question of “Will Phil Hellmuth win his 12th bracelet at the 2009 WSOP occurring in Las Vegas beginning May 27th?” is paying +300 for Yes and -500 for No. Hellmuth made three final tables last year, taking third in the $1,500 buy-in HORSE event for $93,000. You can also bet on whether Brunson or Johnny Chan will score their 11th bracelets. The +300 figure means that a player must bet $100 to get back a total of $400. The -500 figure means that a player must bet $500 to get back a total of $600.
A special last longer wager is also available on the prestigious $50,000 buy-in HORSE Championship, which was infamously won last year by Scotty Nguyen. He has 5:1 odds in the bet, the favorite among the pros available. Others include Brunson (6:1), Hellmuth (7:1), Chan (7:1), Freddy Deeb (11:2), Phil Ivey (6:1), David Williams (11:2), Justin “ZeeJustin” Bonomo (11:2), and Negreanu (6:1). Deeb won the event in 2007 and the late Chip Reese took down the inaugural HORSE Championship in 2006. The trophy given to the winner of the event is named in his honor.
Another unique bet asks wagerers to select what pair will rack up the most winnings in the 2009 WSOP. Patrik Antonius and Kathy Liebert are the current favorites, going off at 4:1. Other pairings available include Doyle and Todd Brunson (6:1), the husband and wife team of Marco Traniello and Jennifer Harman (6:1), father and son Barry Greenstein and Joe Sebok (9:2), brother and sister Annie Duke and Howard Lederer (15:2), Bodog pros Evelyn Ng and Justin Bonomo (15:2), Phil Laak and Jennifer Tilly (6:1), mother and son David and Shirley Williams (6:1), engaged couple Chad Brown and Vanessa Rousso (10:1), and Tom “durrrr” Dwan and Tiffany Michelle (9:2).
Players can even bet on what game will be played when the final hand is dealt during the HORSE Championship. Hold'em, Razz, and Seven Card Stud are all paying 5:2, while Omaha High-Low and Seven Card Stud High-Low are both going off at 15:4.
Bettors will also be keeping their eyes on the female contingent in the Main Event, as a special women's-only last longer bet is available on Bodog. Jennifer Harman and Kathy Liebert are the current favorites; both are 5:1 to remain in contention in the Main Event the longest. Others include Duke (7:1), Tilly (10:1), Cyndy Violette (7:1), Isabelle Mercier (7:1), Clonie Gowen (7:1), Ng (7:1), Liz Lieu (7:1), Mimi Tran (7:1), Katja Thater (7:1), Rousso (7:1), and the last woman standing in the 2007 WSOP Main Event, Maria Ho (10:1).
One prop bet on Bodog centers wholly on Bodog pro Jean-Robert Bellande's finish in the Main Event. Bellande was a contestant on CBS' “Survivor: China,” one of the 18 seasons of the show that have aired. “No Money” is paying 1:20; finishing in the money, but no better than 10th place is paying 8:1; making the final table is paying 150:1; and winning the 2009 WSOP Main Event is fetching 1,000:1 odds. Bellande took 442nd in the Main Event last year.
The first wager listed in Bodog's poker section is, “Will Scotty Nguyen reach his stated promise that he will earn $4,000,000 or more in combined winnings at this year’s WSOP?” Yes is paying out +2,400. The bet stems from an interview Nguyen had with PokerListings that he would retire from poker if he does not amass $4 million in winnings at the 2009 WSOP. Whether he will follow through on his promise is anyone's guess.

Babes + Poker = Profit!
Being a pretty girl and playing poker can get you huge popularity lot easier than for men with same merits. Still, it can be hard for a female pro poker player to be taken seriously at the tables.
Vanessa Rousso, who finished second at the NBC National Heads-Up Poker Championship this year, is topping the list of the hot poker babes. Other female stars include Tiffany Michelle, Erica Schoenberg and Evelyn Ng, who are scheduled to do a photo shoot for Knockout Magazine.

So hot and so knowing the pot odds! Poker babes are for real!
Schoenberg, who is also known for being the fiancé of David Benyamine, thinks it makes a huge difference that a magazine like Knockout have chosen to use real female poker players for an issue rather than just using models in a poker theme.
Successful female players out in the media could help draw more female players to the game. Tiffany Michelle is confident that her success in the last years WSOP Main Event has given an extra boost to other women getting interested in poker:
“Dealers have told me that more young women would be playing poker today if I’d made the final table at the WSOP,” Michelle said. “I’ve had a lot of people tell me their wives or girlfriends got more interested in playing poker after seeing me in the WSOP.”
Rousso, who has best live tournament results of these four, said she sometimes feels like she’s singled out because she’s a woman. She still takes a lot of grief in online poker forums as a woman in poker:
“But in the end, being a woman is definitely to my advantage at the poker table,” Rousso said. “I can take advantage of the underestimation and stereotypes that will be attributed to me simply due to my gender.”
Schoenberg is hoping that more women start playing poker, which would bring more respect to all women players in the game:
“Because there aren’t as many women in the game as men, the really good players that are out there just don’t get noticed,” Schoenberg said. “Bringing more women in and making them a bigger part of the game will help with that and continue to bring more respectability to poker in general.”
Still, I don’t know if there would necessary be as many women as men in the top of poker world, if there were more women playing, but I agree the respectability part.
It is also funny how being good looking and poker player has more value than being a successful one. After all, really successful female players like Kathy Liebert and Annie Duke have been playing for ages and they rarely unfold in the media like their hotter and less successful colleagues Schoenberg and Michelle.

Close, but no cigar - Liebert second, Steve Brecher wins the WPT Bay 101 Shooting Star
Kathy Liebert made her sixth WPT final table appearance, but once again she had to walk away without the top prize and the WPT champion title. Though, the second place finish earned her a nice prize worth of $550,000.
The heads-up play started with Brecher having over to 2-to-1 chiplead with 5,540,000 chips against 2,280,000. Liebert couldn’t get any closer as Brecher slowly pulled away. The final table lasted total of 319 hands which is the new WPT record.
In the last hand Liebert raised to 175,000, Brecher moved all in, and Liebert called with Q-T of spades. Brecher was ahead with his A-9, but the flop, 6-6-2 with two spades, gave Liebert few more outs. None of her outs fell, as the turn was another two and the river four of clubs.

Full Tilt pro Steve Brecher (pictured), a retired computer software developer, more than doubled his live tournament earnings with the win and a $1,025,500 paycheck. His total live tournament earnings were $707,501 before the tournament, his biggest cash being a 6th place finish in 2004 WPT World Championship for $232,862.

Close, but no cigar - Liebert second, Steve Brecher wins the WPT Bay 101 Shooting Star
Kathy Liebert searching for a WPT title, reaches sixth final table
Liebert, who has more than $5 million in career tournament earnings, is the lone remaining shooting star still in the competition, who all had $5k bounty on their heads. She is also trying to become first shooting star ever who have won the tournament.

Liebert is a shooting star who just won’t fall.
If you look the opposition who Liebert is against, WPT Bay 101 Shooting Star tournament in San Jose, California, looks like a perfect spot for her to finally conquer the WPT title that has been eluding her:
1. Chris Moore - 1,476,000
2. Thao Le - 711,000
3. Steve Brecher - 2,016,000
4. Tony Behari - 2,046,000
5. Kathy Liebert - 1,180,000
6. Chau Vu - 352,000
Liebert is by far most famous of six finalists. Only Steve Brecher has previously been in a WPT final table, once. Compared to previous WPT events this season, this final table is maybe the easiest one. Of course anything can happen in poker. Still, Liebert is confident that she can pull this one off:
“I’ve been playing pretty well,” she said. “You always have to get a little lucky, but I feel good about my chances. It’s far better than one out of six.”
