Poker Back on the Silver Screen !

February 8th, 2011

Rounders 2 Poker Movie with Matt Damon & Edward NortonFor a lot of people the enduring image of John Malkovich, aka Teddy KGB -holding an Oreo to his ear - is responsible for them seeking out a poker game in the first place.

The movie Rounders, featuring poker enthusiasts Matt Damon and Edward Norton first released in 1998 is the people’s choice of most popular poker film of all time. Given the rise in popularity of the game in recent years you would have thought that it would be an ideal time for another interesting Hollywood take on this great game. Miramax Films has noticed the gap in the market and are teaming up with Weinstein Company to produce a sequel to that 1998 classic.

Those looking ahead to Betfair Poker Live London should note that according to IMDB the film tentatively titles “Rounders 2” is scheduled for release in 2012. The cast has not yet been announced but it seems Mike McDermott and Worm will be making a return to the silver screen as it is reported that Matt Damon and Edward Norton are on board, as is original director John Dahl.
Miramax issued a press release in late December: “Miramax and the Weinstein Company today announced an agreement to create sequels to some of Miramax’s best-known properties and to partner on potential new television shows and special edition home entertainment products. The first films to be produced under the agreement will be sequels to ‘Bad Santa,’ ‘Rounders,’ and ‘Shakespeare in Love.’”

With the news of a new film comes the gossip of potential roles for the world’s array of glittering poker stars. A whole host of stars, some of them playing themselves, appeared in the 2007 flop Lucky You and Daniel Negreanu sat down with Gambit and Wolverine in X-Men Origins: Wolverine.

Those looking at Betfair Poker Freerolls note that maybe this time around the poker world will supply pocket rockets of their own in Jennifer Tilley or Elizabeth Shannon.

This is probably one of the best movies made about poker. Hands up to the acting of Matt Damon, Edward Norton and John Malkovich. They were really great! Poker fans new and old who haven’t seen this should watch it. There is not excuse for missing it.
